PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matt Cooke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Quin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Quin has chosen Captain Jack - Iko Iko as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matt Cooke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matt Quin!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Quin throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Cooke connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Quin throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Matt Quin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cooke takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Cooke doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Good work by Quin as he checks the leg kick.

Quin has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Cooke's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Quin connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Cooke scrambles back to his feet.

Cooke uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Quin.

Quin closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Cooke is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Quin asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Cooke seems a little lost for a moment, as Quin dominates the positioning.
Cooke wants to get back to his feet but Quin drags him back down.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

and Cooke counters with a good low kick that Quin was not able to check.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Quin cracks Cooke with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Matt Quin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Quin shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Cooke is trying to defend but Quin finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Matt Quin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Quin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
