Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ross Swann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dixie Small (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ross Swann has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 25 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ross Swann!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dixie Small!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Swann misses with a lunging right hand
and Small counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Swann thinking.
We've been informed that Small has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Small circles away from the clinch attempt
and Small counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Swann misses with a hook to the body
and Small connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Small with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Swann to score with a decent uppercut.
Swann tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Swann fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Swann fails with an attempt to clinch.
Ross Swann seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Small misses with a right hand
and Swann counters with a stiff right hand.

Swann gets caught flat footed, as Small shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Small controlling from the top position.
Small prevents Swann from getting back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Small is looking to work some ground and pound but Swann has wrist control.
Small throws a strike but Swann rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Swann will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Small is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Swann defends well.
Swann has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Swann stays in close to Small's body and controls the position.

Small is looking for a triangle but Swann pushes his legs off easily.

Swann got a little sloppy there for a moment and Small has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Swann has managed to get both his arms back between Small's legs - danger averted.

Swann is keen to just control but Small is a slippery customer.

Small is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Small makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Small.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Small is on top in guard.


Swann manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Small has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Swann avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Swann misses with the head strike.
Small has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Swann after a bit of a struggle.
Swann misses with a short punch on the inside.
Swann prevents the takedown attempt.
Ross Swann has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dixie Small.
Small blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ross Swann will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Small takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Swann lands with a slapping head kick.
Small throws a hook but Swann blocks it.
Small looks to land a combination but Swann avoids it well.
Swann is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Swann uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Small.
Small cracks a nice hook into Swann's ribs.
Small clobbers Swann with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Swann on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Swann keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Small.
Nice shot lands for Small.
Swann takes a swing at Small's ribcage but misses.
Small throws a looping overhand right but Swann ducks down to avoid it.
Swann throws a hook but Small avoids it easily.
Small feints the counter takedown.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Swann thows a left - swing and a miss!
Small missing with a left hand there. Swann was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Dixie Small seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Swann throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Small displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Swann throws out the jab.

Swann clinches up with Small and pushes him back against the cage.
Swann gets underhooks to prevent Small's takedown attempt.
Small blocks an uppercut.
Swann misses with the head strike.
Swann lands a body shot in the clinch.
Small is looking to take this one to the mat.
Swann lands a right hand that snaps the head of Small backwards.
Small misses with a punch to the body.
Swann misses with some punches.
Swann lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Small backwards.

Small can't get the takedown.

Small turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Swann bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Swann steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Small.
Swann turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Nice sprawl there from Swann as Small shoots in.
Small uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Swann.
Swann throws a solid leg kick but Small takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Swann.
Small with a poor takedown
and Swann counters with a two punch combo.
Swann is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Small can do to turn this around?
Small throws an off balance right hand
and Small takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Swann tries to close the distance and clinch but Small swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Small might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Small on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Small misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Swann counters with a one-two to the body.
A combination from Small does no damage.
Swann lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
A nice inside leg kick there by Swann. That's going to slow Small down.

Swann doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Swann goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Small lands a takedown into guard.
Small postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Swann is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Small is controlling him.

Swann pulls Small in close to his closed guard and prevents Small from doing any damage or advancing position.
Small connects with a couple of short punches.
Small stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Swann swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Small accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Small throws a big elbow that misses.

Ross Swann dominated that second round.
That's time! Swann's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Swann tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Swann swings for the body but Small moves out of range.
A little jabbing left from Small on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Small tries for a takedown but Swann sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Small takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Small is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Swann.
Small on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Swann. Swann obviously looking to wear him down.

Swann drives through and clinches with Small against the cage.
Swann works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Small has clasped his hands together around Swann's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Swann parries the strikes from Small easily there. Small is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Swann to escape.
Small lands an elbow.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Small looks up at the clock and then as Swann takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Small smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Swann is not content to let Small control the position.

Small landing strikes.
Swann is looking for a sweep.
Small creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Small throws a strike aimed at the side of Swann's head but Swann avoids it well.
Small working the ground and pound from side control.
Small laying and praying for a moment but Swann takes advantage and regains half guard.
Swann is looking to escape.

Small is looking to take a break and control but Swann is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Small throws a strike but Swann avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Small postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Small throws a big right hand that misses.
Swann preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Small throws a strike but Swann rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Small is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Swann is aware though and is defending well.

Small trying to keep a closed guard but Swann is proving a slippery customer.
Small can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Swann controls the pace.
Small wants to control but Swann passes easily into half guard.
Small is looking to improve his position.
Dixie Small has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Swann seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Small does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Dixie Small has got the better of the ground game so far.
Small trying to control here.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Swann tries to score with a low kick but Small moves his leg out of the way.
Small dives in for a single leg takedown but Swann sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Small moves in looking to clinch but Swann pushes him off.
Small swings for the body but Swann moves out of range.

Small tries to keep at a distance but Swann has taken the fight into the clinch.
Swann swings wildly with an uppercut but Small uses good head movement to avoid it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Small lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Small tries to score a body lock takedown but Swann shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ross Swann.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Swann, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
