Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Adolfo Austin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ashley Vargas!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Francis DeMontford and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vargas looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Austin is fending him off so far but Vargas persists. Nope, Austin circles away and we're back to standing.
Austin is looking to counter with head kicks.

Vargas closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Vargas lands in his opponent's guard.
Austin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Austin wants to stand up but Vargas is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Austin might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Austin pulls Vargas in close to prevent any damage.
Vargas won't allow Austin to get back to his feet.
Vargas scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Austin wants to get back to his feet but Vargas is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Austin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Vargas wants to control but Austin is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Austin is nestled in close to Vargas, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Austin is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Vargas wants to get back to full guard.

Austin seems to be looking for submissions.
Vargas trying to hold on to Austin's head to control him but Austin postures up.

Austin is trying to work for a kimura but Vargas is defending well.

Austin is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Vargas defends it well.
Vargas looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Austin is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Vargas has managed to free his arm - good work.
Austin is breathing heavily.
Vargas has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Austin is working away from the top position though.

Vargas gets full guard.
Austin lands a couple of elbows.
Austin working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Austin would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Vargas is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Vargas manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Austin lands a nice knee to the body.

Vargas manages to break the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Vargas moves into range and clinches up with Austin.
Vargas presses Austin against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Vargas digs a right hand underneath Austin's ribcage. Austin let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Vargas jumps into guard, dragging Austin to the mat.

Vargas is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Austin has his hands clasped together but Vargas extends and breaks Austin's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Vargas.
