Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ulysses Whitfield (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ray Rorden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ray Rorden is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ulysses Whitfield!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ray Rorden!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, John Roberts and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rorden looking to score a takedown here. Whitfield is defending well but Rorden drives through and ends up in Whitfield's guard.
Rorden won't allow Whitfield to sweep him here.
Whitfield could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Rorden trying to control the position from guard on top but Whitfield is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Whitfield is striking from the bottom but Rorden uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.
Whitfield slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Whitfield manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rorden manages to get himself to full guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rorden can do anything to dispel that myth.

Whitfield has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rorden bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Whitfield's guard.

Whitfield is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Rorden stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Whitfield swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rorden is pulling down on Whitfield's head. It's preventing any offense from Whitfield, at least for the moment.

Rorden thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Rorden wants to stand but Whitfield is controlling the position.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Whitfield accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Rorden escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Whitfield gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Whitfield throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rorden works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Rorden looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Rorden is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Rorden is looking to take a break and control but Whitfield is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Whitfield tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Rorden has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Rorden really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Whitfield. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Whitfield bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Whitfield not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Whitfield has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Rorden shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rorden showed some decent athleticism there.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rorden connects with a nice short shot to Whitfield's temple.
Rorden wants to get back to his feet.
Rorden is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Rorden passes to side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rorden is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Whitfield's shoulder. That is not cool.
Rorden is looking to take a break and control but Whitfield is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Rorden is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Whitfield will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Rorden is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Whitfield defends it well.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ray Rorden showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



A momentary lapse in concentration from Whitfield enables Rorden to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Whitfield manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Rorden is looking to stand up but Whitfield won't let him.
Whitfield is striking off his back. Rorden thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.

Let's hope that Rorden has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

A looping hook to the body misses from Whitfield. Rorden does a little dance to reset his feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Rorden decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Whitfield is refusing to be controlled, as Rorden sits in half guard.

Rorden must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
