The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva lands a nice shot to the body.
Silva takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Silva seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Silva connects with an inside leg kick.
Silva misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Mendez.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Silva.
Silva throws a leg kick which misses Mendez's front leg but catches the back leg as Mendez tries to avoid it.
Mendez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Silva pinned against the cage. Silva gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Mendez tries to move into range but Silva moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mendez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Silva appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.

Mendez takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
