PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Child (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walker comes into the arena with Another One Bites the Dust blaring out of the sound system. Child has chosen VooDoo as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, John Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marcus Child!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, George Francis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Child jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Walker walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Child throws a right and a left that Walker avoids nicely.
Walker throws a body punch but Child moves out of range.
Walker lands with a shot to the body.
Child throws a leg kick that misses.
Child throws a right and a left that Walker avoids nicely.
That kick from Child tenderised Walker's leg. Walker is trying to keep his angry face on.
Walker misses with a body kick.
Walker throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Child avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Good shot there by Child.
Child throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Walker throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Child has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Walker misses with a body kick.

Child pivots, looking for a leg kick but Walker is out of range and Child settles back down.
Child fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Walker manages to avoid it.
Walker takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

It looks like Marcus Child has been cut.
Walker throws a leg kick

and Child counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Walker has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Child trying to control the position from guard on top but Walker is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Child seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Marcus Child seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Child uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Walker.

Child thows a left - swing and a miss!
An attempted straight right counter from Walker misses the target.
Child attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Walker rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Child moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Child is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Walker had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.

Walker lunges at Child with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Child's hand.

Child tries to bum rush Walker with a series of wild strikes but Walker uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Child throws a chopping leg kick but Walker manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

Walker is looking to chop away at Child's legs.

Child displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Walker throws out the jab.
Child slips a jab and a cross from Walker.
John Walker is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Child finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Walker takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Child ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Walker moves away.
Child stuns Walker with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Nice straight punches there by Child. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Child.
Child takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Child throws a shot from downtown. Walker moves away and avoids it.
Child thuds his right hand into Walker's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Child swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Walker.
Child has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Child needs to keep his hands up - Walker had a free shot at his head there.

Child takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Walker looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Walker ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Child moves away.

and Walker counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Walker throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.

Child smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

Child avoids the body shot from Walker.
Child chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Walker can pounce on him.

Child throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Walker on the side of the head.

Child uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Walker has time to react.
Child throws a hook but Walker blocks it.
Child takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Walker misses with a double jab

and Child counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Child.
Walker is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Child is controlling him.

Child stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Walker swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Child looking to sit in guard and control but Walker gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Walker avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Child is looking to sweep but instead, Walker has passed into half guard.

Marcus Child showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Walker looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

Walker swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Child, as that shot connected.

Child thuds a left hand into Walker's body.
Marcus Child is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

A little feinted left hand from Walker on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Child misses with a low kick.
Walker digs a good hook to Child's body.
Child throws a big shot that misses.
Walker throws a leg kick but Child sees it coming and moves out of range.
Child throws out a counter right but Walker avoids it with no problem.

John Walker has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Walker keeps Child at a distance using the push kick.

Walker fires out a quick counter leg kick but Child just manages to avoid it.
Walker is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Child.
Child throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Walker gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Walker blocks a head kick by Child.
Child moves into range and connects with a jab.
Walker takes a jab right on the kisser.
Walker moves out of range of the strikes.
Walker keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Child.
Both fighters circling a little - Child finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Marcus Child.
Well Child has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
