Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Clifton Hale (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tim Baker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Clifton Hale had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tim Baker!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Alexandre Firmino and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Baker has taken the fight to the clinch.
Baker tries for a takedown but Hale manages to get underhooks.
Come on Baker - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Baker should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Baker pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Hale throws a series of punches but Baker avoids them all with ease.

Hale rushes Baker and presses him up against the cage.
Baker jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hale walks away with a smile on his face. Baker gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Baker throws a series of punches but Hale avoids them all with ease.

Hale moves into the clinch successfully.

Baker breaks the clinch.
Baker connects with a nice looking jab.

Baker takes the fight into the clinch.
Hale wants to get back to striking at distance but Baker won't allow it.
Baker is looking for a takedown.
Clifton Hale has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tim Baker.

Hale pulls guard effortlessly.
Baker is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Baker avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Hale will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Baker throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Hale works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

Baker won't allow Hale to sweep him here.

Hale is adopting a defensive guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Baker with a flurry of punches that miss.
Hale is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Hale really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Hale leaves Baker with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Hale is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Baker.

Hale drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hale jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Baker shoots in for a double leg but Hale sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Baker tries to pull guard but Hale holds him up against the cage and eventually Baker drops back down to his feet.

Hale gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Baker has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Hale off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Hale drives through and clinches with Baker against the cage.

Baker has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Hale avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Hale moves in looking to clinch but Baker pushes him off.

Baker tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hale smiles and moves away.
Baker shoots in looking for a takedown. Hale tries to sprawl out of it but Baker keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hale manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Hale wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Baker moves forwards but Hale connects with a nice, crisp jab.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Baker closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hale circles away.
Hale drops down looking for a counter takedown but Baker sprawls and moves away.
Hale looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Baker throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Hale.

Baker closes the distance and pushes Hale back into the cage.

Hale is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Baker's half guard.
Tim Baker has got the better of the ground game so far.

Hale decides to stand up.

Baker manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Hale keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Clifton Hale will probably get the nod.

Baker is trying to control. Hale wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Baker prevents Hale from improving his position.
Baker wants to pass to mount but Hale is defending the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Baker postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Hale to stand up.
Tim Baker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Baker thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Hale if he has to take too many more of those.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Baker clinches up against the cage.
Hale prevents the takedown attempt.

Baker shoots in looking for a takedown but Hale manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Baker's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Baker wants to get back to his feet but Hale passes into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!


Hale is trying to work for a kimura but Baker is defending well.
Hale is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Clifton Hale.
I think Hale has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
