PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Keijo Tapaus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Xerxes Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Keijo Tapaus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Xerxes Anderson!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Dean Styles and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anderson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Tapaus as he avoids it easily.
Tapaus throwing a counter right hand but Anderson manages to avoid it.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Anderson.
Tapaus was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Tapaus gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Anderson.
Anderson tries for a takedown but Tapaus sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Tapaus appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Keijo Tapaus has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Xerxes Anderson.
Tapaus throws a series of punches but Anderson moves out of range.
A nice side step and Anderson releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Tapaus gets caught flat footed, as Anderson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Tapaus has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Anderson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Tapaus had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Anderson defends it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Anderson wants to pass the guard but Tapaus is keeping the position.
Tapaus not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Anderson trying to control the position from guard on top but Tapaus is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Anderson drops back looking for a leg! Tapaus is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Tapaus manages to kick Anderson off! Anderson jumps back into Tapaus's guard.

Tapaus is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Anderson defends well.

Tapaus is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Anderson is aware though and is defending well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Tapaus is trying to keep Anderson in close.
Anderson engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
A swing and a miss from Tapaus.
Anderson tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Anderson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Tapaus as he jumps to the side.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Anderson is defended easily by Tapaus.
Anderson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tapaus scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.


It looks like Xerxes Anderson has been cut.
Anderson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Tapaus's waist but Tapaus gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Anderson off to one side.
Anderson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Anderson swings for the body but Tapaus moves out of range.
Anderson takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Anderson tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Tapaus defends well and Anderson ends up having to push Tapaus into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Tapaus throws a shot from downtown. Anderson moves away and avoids it.
Anderson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Tapaus as he jumps to the side.
It looked like Tapaus was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Anderson.
Anderson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Tapaus tries to avoid it but Anderson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Tapaus to the ground. Tapaus escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Tapaus stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Tapaus wants it to stay on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Anderson shoots in for a takedown but Tapaus shows good takedown defense.
Tapaus displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Anderson.
Anderson fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
A jab lands there for Tapaus.
No luck for Anderson with that takedown attempt.
Tapaus throwing a counter right hand but Anderson manages to avoid it.
Anderson fails with the takedown.
Tapaus swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Anderson darts in looking for a takedown but Tapaus gets double underhooks and turns Anderson into the cage.
Anderson throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Tapaus counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Keijo Tapaus dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Xerxes Anderson's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Tapaus fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Anderson to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Anderson looks to clinch but Tapaus throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Anderson taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Keijo Tapaus!
