And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Jeff Smith and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wasey pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Wasey scores with a head kick. Ballard tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Wasey misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
It looked like Ballard wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wasey tries to buck Ballard off but Ballard is having none of it.

Ballard throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Wasey tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Ballard is in Wasey's guard.

Ballard has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Ballard's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Wasey throws a sloppy head kick and Ballard moves out of range easily.
Ballard is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Wasey fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Wasey leaves Ballard with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Wasey lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Wasey.

Ballard steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Wasey. That one must have hurt.

Chasey Wasey is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Wasey is breathing heavily.
Wasey tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Ballard was well out of range. Poor timing from Wasey.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Wasey got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ballard has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wasey has managed to get both his arms back between Ballard's legs - danger averted.
Ballard bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Wasey's guard.

Ballard jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Wasey walks away with a smile on his face. Ballard gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
