Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Samoa Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joe has chosen Destroyer as his entrance music. Mark Hunter has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mark Hunter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Samoa Joe!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Winston Howard and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hunter shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hunter wants to clinch.
Joe drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Hunter defends it well.
Joe fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Joe shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hunter napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Joe creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Hunter sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
A lull in the action here.
Joe throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The strikes coming from Joe are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Joe working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Hunter wants to get back to his feet but Joe drags him back down.

Hunter is working to avoid the ground and pound but Joe connects with a decent elbow.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hunter is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Joe has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Joe lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Hunter down.
Hunter is pushing Joe's head away, looking to escape. Joe manages to hold on to the position though.

Hunter is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Joe asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Hunter doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Hunter tries to score a power double leg takedown but Joe sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hunter somewhat.
Hunter is looking to clinch.

Joe fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Hunter looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Joe has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Hunter closes this distance looking for a takedown but Joe circles away.

Hunter gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Hunter pushes Joe off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Joe wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Horrible takedown attempt by Hunter or perhaps it was just good defense by Joe, which made it look bad.

Joe throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Hunter stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Hunter is wriggling around but Joe manages to pass to half guard.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Joe lands a nice short elbow.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Joe takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Joe is continuing to stall.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee warns Hunter that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Joe cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Samoa Joe showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Joe throws a looping overhand right but Hunter ducks down to avoid it.

Let's hope that Joe has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Joe shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Hunter eats them both and turns towards Joe to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Mark Hunter has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well Joe has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
