Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Barrett Byers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and True Blue Pete (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Barrett Byers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, True Blue Pete!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Skip Squint and Ben Watson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Byers fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Pete misses with a double jab.
Pete throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Pete.
Byers slaps away a takedown attempt from Pete, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Pete will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Barrett Byers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of True Blue Pete.
Pete shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Byers but Byers pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Pete drives through and clinches with Byers against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pete keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Byers's efforts to push away.
Pete tries to pull guard but Byers forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

True Blue Pete seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Byers stuffs the takedown attempt from Pete. Pete gets slowly back to his feet.
Pete looks winded!

Byers shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Byers lands with a punch from half guard.

Byers prevents Pete from improving his position.
Byers throwing shots but Pete is blocking nicely.
Byers missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Pete wants to improve his position but Byers is controlling well.

Byers gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Byers gets tackled into the cage by Pete. Pete maintains the clinch.
Pete is trying to pull guard but Byers has him pressed against the cage.

Byers breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Pete throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Byers shoots in looking for a takedown but Pete manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Byers's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Pete moves into the clinch successfully.
Byers looking to stall.

Pete is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Byers is defending well.
Byers is pressed up against the cage. Pete has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Byers down to the mat. Byers avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Byers looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Pete is fending him off so far but Byers persists. Nope, Pete circles away and we're back to standing.

As Pete tries to get set, Byers tries to push him back and clinch up but Pete manages to avoid the attempt.
Nice sprawl there from Pete as Byers shoots in.

Byers tries to keep at a distance but Pete has taken the fight into the clinch.
Byers tries for a takedown. No joy.

Byers jumps guard but Pete turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Byers is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Pete wants to get back to striking at distance but Byers won't allow it.
Byers tries to pull guard but Pete forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Byers tries to pull guard but Pete holds him up against the cage and eventually Byers drops back down to his feet.
Pete with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Byers prevents Pete from breaking the clinch.
Pete's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Byers tries a body shot but Pete blocks it.

Pete pulls guard successfully.
Pete looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but True Blue Pete will probably get the nod.

Pete throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Byers slips a jab and a cross from Pete.
Byers darts in looking for a takedown but Pete gets double underhooks and turns Byers into the cage.
Barrett Byers is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Byers looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Pete has managed to clinch.

Byers manages to pull guard.
Pete throwing strikes but missing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Byers can't keep his opponent in guard - Pete advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Pete throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Byers kicks off Pete and gets to his feet.

Pete closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Byers tries for a takedown but Pete manages to get underhooks.

Pete dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.

Pete rushes Byers and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Pete has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Byers uses from the top position.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Byers wants to work for an arm triangle but Pete is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Pete is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Pete desperately trying to maintain half guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Pete manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Byers keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Byers misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Pete manages to break the clinch.
True Blue Pete seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Pete looks for the body kick but Byers saw that one coming.

Pete has closed the distance and engaged Byers in a clinch.
Byers jumps guard but Pete stands there with Byers around his waist. Byers gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Byers has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Pete uses from the top position.
Pete must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pete accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

True Blue Pete showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Pete lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Pete.


It looks like Barrett Byers has been cut.
Pete throws a one two combo.


Byers is rocked!
Pete shoots in but no luck this time.
Oh Byers is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Pete throws an overhand right that drops Byers like a sack of potatoes! Pete dives in to finish the fight with more strikes and this one is all over!
