PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gerry Garza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Taulua Fautanua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Gerry Garza has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gerry Garza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Taulua Fautanua!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Damien Edna and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fautanua shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Garza manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Garza really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Fautanua is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Garza is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fautanua cracks Garza with a solid left hand.
Garza is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Fautanua not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Fautanua gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Fautanua closes the distance and clinches.
Garza has Fautanua pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Fautanua manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Garza is trying to pull guard but Fautanua turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Fautanua is trying to trip Garza. He has hold of a leg but Garza is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Fautanua persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Garza is breathing heavily.
Fautanua postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Garza tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Fautanua controlling from the top position.
Garza looking for a sweep. Not yet Garza, not yet.
Garza can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Fautanua controls the pace.
It looks like Fautanua might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Garza will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Fautanua's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Fautanua is in close to Garza's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Garza looking to hit a scissor sweep but Fautanua is one step ahead there.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Fautanua has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Garza has momentary wrist control but Fautanua slips an elbow through the middle.
Fautanua slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Garza being controlled here, momentarily.
Fautanua advances to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Taulua Fautanua dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Fautanua avoids the head kick by Garza.

Fautanua shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Garza napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Garza bucks up and tries to throw Fautanua off but instead Fautanua has got his back!
Garza knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Fautanua on the ground.

Garza is rocked!
Fautanua is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
Oh Garza is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Fautanua scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Garza is looking for a way out.

Fautanua working for the rear naked choke here. He's got one arm under but Garza is defending well. A couple of punches soften him up though and Fautanua has tightened the hold! This one could be all over! It is! Garza taps out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Taulua Fautanua!
Taulua Fautanua was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
