PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Earnest Snider (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matthew Le (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Earnest Snider has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Earnest Snider!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Matthew Le!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Micheangelo Fripello and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Snider.

Le throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Snider was covering up waiting for the punch and Le finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Snider striking from the bottom.
Le pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Snider is keeping the position for now.
Le wants to control from the top but Snider keeps moving.
Snider will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Le stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Snider swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Le slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Snider has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Le's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Snider looking for a sweep. Not yet Snider, not yet.
Snider is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Le rushes Snider and presses him up against the cage.
Snider fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Le lands a takedown into guard.
Snider wants to get back to his feet but Le passes into half guard.

Snider has hold of Le's hands but Le slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Snider is trying to get back to full guard.
Snider trying to hold on to Le's head to control him but Le postures up.
Le seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Snider does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Snider wants to get back to his feet.
Snider wants to control but Le is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Snider is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Le in particular looking to stall.

Le has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Le tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Snider is bucking up trying to escape but Le cracks him with another couple of good strikes.


It looks like Earnest Snider has been cut.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Snider wants to try and get back to his feet.
Le controlling from mount.
Snider wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.

I would not like to be Snider right now.
Snider is trying to break free.

Le is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
Snider trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

Le throws a lazy body kick

and Snider counters with a single leg into guard. Le didn't expect that.

Le looking for a guillotine here but Snider defends easily.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Snider accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Snider trying to control but Le is working from the bottom.
Snider postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Le is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Le seems keen to control Snider's posture.
Snider postures up and lands a big shot to Le's brow.

Snider won't allow Le to sweep him here.
Snider trying to control but Le is working from the bottom.
Snider controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Le is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Snider defends well.
Snider throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Le works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Le fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Le drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Snider is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Snider bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Le's guard.

Snider not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Le wants to sweep here but Snider controlling him for the moment.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Snider's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Le has a closed guard, preventing Snider from standing up.

Le is trying to control the position but Snider postures up.
Snider is fighting to break Le's control of his arms but Le is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Le has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Le not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Snider wants to get up but he can't break Le's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Le moves into range and clinches up with Snider.

Le manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Snider looking to sit in guard and control but Le gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Le throws a sloppy head kick

and Snider counters with a shoot takedown. Le fights it but they end up in guard.

Le working for a triangle but Snider defends it easily.
Snider is looking to work some ground and pound but Le has wrist control.
Snider wants to control from the top but Le keeps moving.
Le is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Le is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Snider is controlling him.

Snider throws a big right hand that misses.

Le has his foot on Snider's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Snider works his way back into a safe position though.
Snider wants to get up but he can't break Le's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Matthew Le seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Le moves out of range of the leg kick from Snider.
Snider closes the distance and clinches up with Le, looking for a takedown. Snider pushes Le against the cage but Le circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Le shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Snider is trying to defend but Le finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Le looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Le takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Snider wants to get back to his feet.

Snider trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Snider tries to get to full guard but Le has control of the leg.
Le is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Snider is looking for a sweep. Le is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Le fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Snider sprawls well initially but Le persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Le wants to free his trapped foot but Snider is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Earnest Snider has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Matthew Le is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Snider looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

I would just about give that final round to Matthew Le.
Well Le has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
