PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Eddie Freeman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ronson Bonson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eddie Freeman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ronson Bonson!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Lou da Vinci and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Freeman throws a right hand that Bonson ducks under and follows up with a left that Bonson also avoids with ease.

Freeman gets caught napping as Bonson dives in and scores a takedown. Freeman manages to retain guard.
Freeman controlling the position.
Bonson throwing strikes from guard but Freeman blocks nicely.
Bonson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Bonson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Bonson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Bonson passes Freeman's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Freeman is trying to maintain the position but Bonson is very close to passing his half guard.

Bonson stops Freeman from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Well, if Bonson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Bonson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Freeman sprawls well initially but Bonson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Bonson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Freeman does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Bonson is pressing down on Freeman's thigh, looking to free his foot. Freeman is holding on for now.

Freeman regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Bonson.

Bonson stands and throws Freeman's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Freeman avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Bonson.

Bonson throws a strike aimed at the side of Freeman's head but Freeman avoids it well.
Bonson is looking to take a break and control but Freeman is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Bonson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Freeman has escaped the position, nice work there.
Freeman is trying to escape the position but Bonson is controlling the position.

Bonson trying to control the action but Freeman is working from the bottom.
Bonson wants to stand but Freeman has his arm trapped.

Bonson has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Freeman really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ronson Bonson dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Bonson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Freeman quickly recovers to half guard.

Freeman looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Freeman is not content to let Bonson control the position.
Bonson wants to stand up but Freeman has a hold of him and won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Freeman wants to control but Bonson is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Bonson lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Bonson is trying to control. Freeman wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Freeman really is a fat lump.
Bonson working over Freeman with some ground and pound. Freeman looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Bonson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Freeman keeps working.
Freeman is in trouble now - Bonson has advanced to mount!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Freeman blocking the ground and pound.
Bonson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Bonson cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Bonson tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Freeman slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Bonson throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Bonson thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Bonson wants to work for an arm triangle but Freeman is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Bonson is looking to advance position but Freeman won't allow it.
Freeman throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Freeman keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Freeman trying to hold on to Bonson's head to control him but Bonson postures up.
Still in half guard, Bonson seems content to control.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Freeman is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Bonson pulls his head out easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Bonson performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Freeman tries to sprawl but Bonson drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bonson moves into full mount! Freeman won't be happy about that!
Bonson trying to control but Freeman is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ronson Bonson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Bonson cracks Freeman with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Freeman might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Bonson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Freeman is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
A head kick misses from Bonson.

Bonson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Bonson wants to free his trapped foot but Freeman is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Freeman is trying to maintain the position but Bonson is very close to passing his half guard.
Eddie Freeman has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ronson Bonson is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Ronson Bonson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Bonson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
