Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Miguel Pontinha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Abel Binadam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Abel Binadam is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Miguel Pontinha!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Abel Binadam!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Anni Minnemäki and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pontinha tries to sprawl but Binadam drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Pontinha is looking for a sweep. Binadam is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Pontinha makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Pontinha.
Binadam lands a couple of digs.
Binadam's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Binadam got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pontinha has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Binadam has managed to get both his arms back between Pontinha's legs - danger averted.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pontinha is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Binadam is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Pontinha is just riding it out for now. Binadam eventually gives up the hold.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

It looks like Binadam might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

What can Pontinha do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Pontinha comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Binadam closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Binadam is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Pontinha's shoulder. That is not cool.

Binadam is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Pontinha has escaped the position, nice work there.
Binadam has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Pontinha is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Binadam off and has taken his back!

Pontinha drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Binadam manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Pontinha has Binadam in his guard.

Binadam stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pontinha swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Pontinha can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Binadam controls the pace.
Binadam stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pontinha swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Binadam not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Pontinha has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Binadam is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Pontinha.
Binadam works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Abel Binadam showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Pontinha was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Let's hope that Binadam has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
I really don't envy Pontinha right now.
