PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jose Cronos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Santiago Sorias (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cronos comes to the cage accompanied by Sandstorm. Sorias has chosen Fight - Future World Music as his entrance music. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 34 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jose Cronos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Juan Santiago Sorias!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Ian Loll and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cronos misses with an uppercut.
Sorias throws out a counter right but Cronos avoids it with no problem.
Sorias throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Cronos cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Cronos circles away from the clinch attempt.
Sorias lands a head kick!
A jab from Cronos does it's job there.
Cronos gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Sorias.
Cronos scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Sorias tries to clinch but Cronos is having none of it.
Cronos lands with a right hand.
Cronos closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cronos works over Sorias's head and body with a nice combination.
Cronos avoids a kick to the body.
Sorias scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

Cronos shoots and misses
and Sorias counters with a solid body kick.
Cronos ducks under a wild hook from Sorias.
Cronos throws a head kick that misses.
Sorias throws out a counter right but Cronos avoids it with no problem.
Cronos walks into a left hand.
Cronos shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Sorias eats them both and turns towards Cronos to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Cronos swats away the attempt to clinch by Sorias.
Sorias tries to close the distance and clinch but Cronos swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Cronos takes a kick to the side of the head.

Cronos scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cronos controls the position.
Sorias pushes Cronos away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Cronos gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here.

Cronos working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Cronos controlling the position.
Sorias is pushing Cronos's head away, looking to escape. Cronos manages to hold on to the position though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Cronos goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Sorias rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Cronos's guard! Nice work there by Sorias!
Cronos not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Cronos has his foot on Sorias's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sorias works his way back into a safe position though.
Cronos looking to control.
Sorias would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Sorias gets to his feet. Cronos looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cronos lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Sorias tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Cronos connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Cronos slips a jab and a cross from Sorias.
Cronos catches Sorias with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Sorias thows a leg kick but Cronos checks it

and Cronos counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cronos is keen to just control but Sorias is a slippery customer.
Sorias wants to get back to his feet.
Cronos wants to control but Sorias is keeping him busy.

Cronos is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Cronos is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Sorias doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Cronos.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jose Cronos will probably get the nod.
That's time! Cronos's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Sorias tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Cronos paws at him with a jab and circles away.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Cronos crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Sorias - the referee stops the clock and Cronos gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Sorias. Cronos manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Sorias scores with a sloppy right hand. Cronos should have avoided that one.
Cronos checks the leg kick nicely there.
It looks like Cronos has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Cronos staying out of range there.
Cronos was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Sorias throws a leg kick
enabling Cronos to counter with a crisp jab.
Cronos misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Cronos checks a leg kick.
Cronos is looking for a counter combo.
Cronos cracks Sorias with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cronos throws a lazy right hand but Sorias sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
A looping hook to the body misses from Cronos. Sorias does a little dance to reset his feet.
Sorias throws a counter combo.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Sorias.
Cronos lands with a shot to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Cronos scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Sorias tries to escape but Cronos is in control.
Cronos slows the pace down.
Sorias prevents Cronos from improving position.

Cronos thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Cronos tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Cronos has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sorias is not content to let Cronos control the position.
Jose Cronos overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Sorias is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Cronos asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Cronos is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sorias is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Sorias wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Sorias is trying to buck Cronos off.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Cronos.
Sorias tries to clinch but Cronos moves away
and Cronos counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Cronos misses with a body shot.
A little jabbing left from Sorias on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Cronos staying out of range there.

Sorias closes the distance and pushes Cronos back into the cage.
Sorias is looking to break free of the clinch but Cronos has double underhooks.
Cronos has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Sorias avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Sorias misses with a hook from the clinch.
Sorias looking to throw knees to the head but Cronos is blocking nicely.
Sorias fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Cronos breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sorias misses with a few strikes there.
Cronos dodges the punch combination from Sorias.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Cronos avoids the head kick by Sorias.
Juan Santiago Sorias is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Cronos tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jose Cronos will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Sorias misses with a double jab.
Cronos throws a big counter combination but Sorias scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

It looks like Juan Santiago Sorias has been cut.
Cronos takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Sorias tries to clinch up
and Cronos counters with a two punch combo.
Sorias is still on wobbly legs! Can Cronos finish him?
Sorias misses with a looping left.
A left lands for Sorias.
Cronos attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Sorias seems to have recovered his senses.
Cronos throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sorias takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Sorias tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Cronos paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Cronos is looking for a counter combo.

Cronos avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Cronos throwing a counter right hand but Sorias manages to avoid it.
Sorias throws a head kick that misses
and Cronos counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Sorias thinking.
Sorias bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Cronos's head.
Juan Santiago Sorias seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fighters circle, before Cronos throws a beautiful high kick that crashes into Sorias's neck, sending him stumbling to the floor! Cronos lands more strikes and forces a referee stoppage! That one ended in an instant!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:22 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Kick & Punches). Jose Cronos!
A very excited looking Jose Cronos made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
