PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Wick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Humberto Lima (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Humberto Lima told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wick circles away from the clinch attempt
and Wick counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Wick.
Wick scores with a nice right hand.
Lima fails with the takedown
letting Wick counter with a right hand.
Wick lands with a straight right. Lima didn't see that one coming.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lima darts in looking for a takedown but Wick gets double underhooks and turns Lima into the cage.

Lima tries to clinch up but Wick circles away and keeps his distance.
It looked like Wick was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Wick clinches with his opponent.
Lima has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Wick is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Wick manages to break the clinch.
Wick throws a combination. Lima tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

It looks like Humberto Lima has been cut.

Wick shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Lima manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Lima is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Wick postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Wick is in close to Lima's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Wick really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Wick accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Wick is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Lima knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

and Wick counters with a two punch combo.
Lima goes for a double leg but Wick avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Wick continues to drive forward.
Wick fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Lima.
Lima shoots in for a double leg but Wick sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
John Wick has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Humberto Lima.

Lima is breathing heavily.

Wick closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Lima to the mat! Lima manages to get full guard.

Wick will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Lima isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Wick stacks Lima on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Wick!

Wick lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Lima or not.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Lima wants to take the fight to the mat but Wick manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Lima gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Wick to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Lima takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Lima with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Wick to score with a decent uppercut.

Wick tightens his grip and picks Lima up, before dumping him to the ground. Lima manages to land in guard.

Lima working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wick doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wick manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Wick shoots in and bounces Lima off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Lima is working an open guard so Wick takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Wick changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Lima looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Well Wick has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
