The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Asashoryu connects with a nice looking jab.

It looks like Goodnight Irene has been cut.

Asashoryu throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
As Asashoryu backs off Irene throws a huge counter combo but Asashoryu manages to avoid it all.
Asashoryu pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Asashoryu throws a right and a left that both miss.

Irene feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Asashoryu's calf.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Asashoryu tries a head kick but it misses.

As Asashoryu backs off Irene throws a huge counter combo but Asashoryu manages to avoid it all.

and Irene counters with a crisp one two that drops Asashoryu! Irene thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Asashoryu to his feet! Asashoryu is in big trouble!

Asashoryu lands with a hook. Irene tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

That has opened up Goodnight Irene's cut even more.

Asashoryu throws the left hand but Irene avoids the punch easily.
Irene steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Asashoryu.
Yokozuna Asashoryu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Asashoryu is trying to push Irene away but Irene has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Irene swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Irene throws a punch but it's blocked by Asashoryu.
Asashoryu has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Irene lands a hook to the side of the head.
Asashoryu's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Asashoryu blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Irene tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Asashoryu's elbow.
Asashoryu has had enough of the clinch but Irene keeps him there for the moment.
A bit of stalling here from Irene.

Asashoryu escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Asashoryu throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Irene moves out of range of the body kick.
Asashoryu misses with a head kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yokozuna Asashoryu dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Irene takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Irene is looking for the big counter here.
Asashoryu stalks Irene and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Irene's face. Irene staggers backwards, shaken.
Asashoryu throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Irene counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Irene.
Asashoryu is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
A nice right hand lands inside from Irene.
Irene lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Asashoryu is rocked!
Asashoryu wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Irene lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Asashoryu backwards.
Oh Asashoryu is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Irene has a couple of punches blocked by Asashoryu.
Irene pushes Asashoryu against the cage. Irene is working some dirty boxing. Irene pushes off with a quick right hook! Asashoryu goes down! Asashoryu tries to stand but stumbles back to his kness! Irene moves in to finish and the ref steps in to prevent any more damage!

Goodnight Irene tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
