Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Granville Ballard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Koksal Baba!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Roger Salmon and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baba misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Ballard looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.

Baba closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Ballard did well to prevent Baba getting side control.
Ballard throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Ballard makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Ballard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Baba is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Ballard is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Ballard is looking for a triangle but Baba pushes his legs off easily.

Ballard working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Baba doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Baba manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Baba wants to stand and escape but instead Ballard has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Baba has momentary wrist control but Ballard slips an elbow through the middle.

Ballard is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Ballard sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Ballard is doing well to control the position and prevent Baba from advancing to side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ballard flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Koksal Baba dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


The crowd cheers as Baba lands an impressive looking overhand right. Ballard doesn't seem phased though.
Baba tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Ballard thinks about countering with a head kick.
Ballard takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Baba clinches up with Ballard and pushes him back against the cage.
Ballard wants a takedown.
Ballard tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Baba's elbow.
Ballard tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Baba avoids it.

Baba breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Baba has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Baba shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Baba must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Ballard is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Baba manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Ballard on his heels. He'll look to pass Ballard's guard now, I'm sure.

Ballard is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Baba presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Baba pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Baba decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Baba really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ballard. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ballard is taking a breather. Baba says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Ballard looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Ballard lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Baba is looking to improve his position.
Ballard seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

A close second round but Koksal Baba will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Baba blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Ballard is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Ballard seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Baba for as long as he can get away with.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Ballard thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Baba looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Baba is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Baba thows a huge punch but Ballard dodges it nicely.

Koksal Baba is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Koksal Baba comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Baba has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
