PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tom Gentry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Snow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Snow comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Johnny B. Goode kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tom Gentry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, John Snow!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Aafke Stam and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Snow throws a head kick that misses.

Snow clinches up against the cage.
Gentry looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Gentry fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Snow gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Snow wants to control but Gentry is keeping him busy.

Snow stands up and beckons Gentry to join him on the feet.

Gentry tries to sprawl but Snow drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Gentry has one foot on Snow's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Gentry avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Gentry avoids a punch combination nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Snow closes the distance but Gentry moves to the side
and Gentry cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Snow closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Snow tries to pass to full mount but Gentry defends it.
Snow is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Snow wants to pass the guard but Gentry is defending well.
Snow missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Snow is keen to just control but Gentry is a slippery customer.
Snow throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Snow seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Snow is stalling here. Gentry is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Snow seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Gentry has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Gentry cracks Snow with an elbow. That is naaassty.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Snow is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Gentry asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Snow bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Gentry checks a leg kick.
Gentry wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Snow shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Gentry manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Gentry will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Snow accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Snow trying to control but Gentry is working from the bottom.
Snow looking to sit in guard and control but Gentry gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Gentry lands a couple of digs.

Snow pushes Gentry off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Snow closes the distance and clinches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gentry blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
A frustrated look appears on Snow's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Snow is trying to force a seperation but Gentry has the dominant position.
Gentry on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Snow has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Gentry clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Snow struggling to keep hold of the position.
Gentry is trying to break free.
Snow wants to control but Gentry is keeping busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Snow dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Snow moves into range and clinches up with Gentry.
Gentry tries to pull guard but Snow holds him up against the cage and eventually Gentry drops back down to his feet.
Snow can't find room to land a body shot as Gentry controls the action.
Snow struggles to land a body shot inside as Gentry controls his hands.
Snow misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Gentry.
Snow doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
A frustrated look appears on Snow's face as he tries to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gentry jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Snow walks away with a smile on his face. Gentry gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Snow has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Gentry scores with a kick to the midsection.
John Snow seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Snow closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Snow is pressing down on Gentry's thigh, looking to free his foot. Gentry is holding on for now.

Gentry manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Snow has closed the distance and engaged Gentry in a clinch.

Snow works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Snow seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Snow slips nicely into half guard.
Snow landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Snow seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gentry does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Snow throwing shots but Gentry is blocking nicely.
Snow lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Snow connects with a nice short shot to Gentry's temple.

Gentry wants to improve his position but Snow is controlling well.
Snow wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gentry keeps working.

Snow is pressing down on Gentry's thigh, looking to free his foot. Gentry is holding on for now.
Snow throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Snow lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Snow controlling the pace.
Gentry is staying active underneath Snow, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
John Snow has got the better of the ground game so far.
Snow frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Snow moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Gentry has worked his arm free - good work by Gentry!

Snow stands up and beckons Gentry to his feet.
Gentry throws a head kick that half lands.
A head kick misses from Snow.
Gentry really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Snow shoots in and gets a takedown into Gentry's guard.

Gentry is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Snow is aware though and is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Snow showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Snow throws a head kick but Gentry moves out of range.
Snow is looking to clinch but Gentry is avoiding it.
Snow tries to clinch
and Gentry makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Snow comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Snow clinches up with Gentry and pushes him back against the cage.

Gentry is fighting off a takedown attempt but Snow is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Gentry to the mat. Gentry regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Gentry wants to get back to his feet but Snow is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Snow throws a big right hand that misses.

Gentry working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Snow doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Snow manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Snow content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Snow lands a couple of digs.


Gentry is rocked!
Snow with a nice head shot there.
Oh Gentry is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Snow postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Gentry covers up, he's hurt! Snow keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Snow and the ref steps in to end the fight! Snow can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:33 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Snow!
Our winner, John Snow, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
