PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kimbo Stripe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lance Paul (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stripe comes into the arena with Captain Sensible - Happy Talk blaring out of the sound system. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Kimbo Stripe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lance Paul!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yuuki Gou and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stripe shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Paul as he avoids it easily.
Paul lands with an uppercut that bounces Stripe off the cage and back into range.
Paul fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Stripe.
Stripe throws a hook but Paul avoids it easily.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Paul.
Paul connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Stripe wants to land a leg kick but Paul is out of range.
Paul throws a leg kick which misses Stripe's front leg but catches the back leg as Stripe tries to avoid it.
Paul throws a lazy right hand but Stripe sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Stripe uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Paul.
Stripe moves out of range of the strikes.
Paul throws a hook to the side of Stripe's head but Stripe sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Paul misses with a straight left.
Paul throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
We've been informed that Paul has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Paul connects with a crisp jab.
Stripe slips under a jab.

Stripe moves into the clinch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Stripe tries to throw a body punch but Paul avoids it by throwing Stripe back against the cage.

Stripe gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Paul regains guard.

Paul scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Paul pushes Stripe back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Stripe lands with a light punch inside.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Paul blocks an elbow strike.

Stripe escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Paul throws a hook but Stripe avoids it easily.
An attempted straight right counter from Stripe misses the target.
Paul jabs at Stripe's body.
Nice uppercut there from Stripe.
Paul fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Paul misses with an uppercut.
Paul scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Lance Paul is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Paul tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Paul swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
A swing and a miss from Paul.
Paul fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Stripe on the side of the head.

Paul misses with a looping left.
Paul throws a shot from downtown. Stripe moves away and avoids it.
Paul misses with a series of wild punches.

Paul connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Stripe's hands.
Paul misses with a left hand
and Stripe counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Stripe takes a swing at Paul's ribcage but misses.
Paul swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Paul connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Stripe's hands.
Paul throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Stripe on the side of the head.
Stripe looks to throw the jab but Paul is out of range.
A right-left combo lands from Paul.
Paul scores with a nice right hand.
Paul is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Stripe had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
Paul on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Paul lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Stripe bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Stripe is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Stripe shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Stripe was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Paul sneaks out the side door and pushes Stripe away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stripe lands a nice shot to the body.
Stripe misses with a double jab.
Stripe closes this distance looking for a takedown but Paul circles away.
Stripe takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Stripe ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Paul moves away.
Lance Paul seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Paul lands a two punch combo.
Paul connects with a looping right hand.
Stripe tests Paul's chin there with a solid looking shot.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Stripe dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Paul connects with a crisp jab.
A big left from Paul misses.
Paul clobbers Stripe with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Paul pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Stripe scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Good standup being displayed there by Stripe as he connects with a hook.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stripe lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.


Paul is rocked!
Stripe lands with a massive overhand right! Stick a fork in Paul - he's out cold! Ermm... I think I just mixed my metaphors but yeah... That was a nice KO! Big win for Stripe!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:11 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Kimbo Stripe!
During a confident post fight interview, Kimbo Stripe thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
