PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Predator Burns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Viktor Krum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Burns might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Jiu-Jitsu. Krum has chosen Explosive by Bond as his entrance music. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Predator Burns!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Viktor Krum!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Elvis Blanc and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Krum enables Burns to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Krum manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Burns looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Burns trying to control but Krum is working from the bottom.
Burns trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Burns is stalling in the full guard.
Burns passes into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Krum is staying active underneath Burns, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Burns perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Burns in particular looking to stall.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Burns avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Krum swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Burns throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Burns moves away from the strike by Krum.
Viktor Krum is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Krum takes a swing at Burns's ribcage but misses.
We've been hearing reports that Burns has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Krum throws a right hand that misses
and Burns counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Burns takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Viktor Krum seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Burns throws out a leg kick but Krum moves out of range and Burns only half commits.
Burns misses with a straight right.
Burns jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Krum lunges at Burns with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Burns's hand.
Krum misses with a series of wild punches.

Krum pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Krum lands a slapping body shot.
Krum misses with a wild body shot.
Burns appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Krum tries to clinch up but Burns circles away and keeps his distance.
Both fighters circling a little - Krum finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Krum uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Burns.
Krum takes a jab right on the kisser.
Krum throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Burns on the side of the head.
Burns goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Burns connects with a leg kick. Krum looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Burns avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Krum swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Krum looks to land a left hand but Burns moved out of range nicely.
Burns fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Burns throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Burns throws a hook but Krum blocks it.
Krum thinks about the counter body kick.

and Burns counters with a shoot takedown. Krum fights it but they end up in guard.
Burns engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Burns stands and throws Krum's legs to the side, diving into side control.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Krum connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Burns's hands.

Burns darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Burns is controlling the pace.
Krum slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Burns stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Krum swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Krum is pulling down on Burns's head. It's preventing any offense from Burns, at least for the moment.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Krum is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Krum looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Krum is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Krum throws out a loose jab but Burns uses good head movement to avoid it.
Burns tries to counter with a takedown but Krum is quick to defend against it.
Krum closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Burns swings for the body but Krum moves out of range.
Burns throws a hook to the side of Krum's head but Krum sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Burns connects with a solid leg kick.
Krum throws a body shot but no joy.
Krum swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Nice uppercut lands for Krum. That snapped Burns's head back.
A slow jab from Krum misses its intended target.

Burns uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Krum.
Krum misses the shot to the body.
A telegraphed right hand from Krum misses the target.
Burns with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Krum to score with a decent uppercut.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Krum wants to get back to full guard.
Burns with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Burns seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Krum for as long as he can get away with.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Predator Burns will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Burns fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Krum to the ground. Burns is now in Krum's guard.
Krum looking to hit a scissor sweep but Burns is one step ahead there.
Burns trying to control the position from guard on top but Krum is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Krum bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Burns's guard.


Burns is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Krum is aware though and is defending well.

Burns looking for a guillotine here but Krum defends easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Burns keeping moving, preventing Krum from controlling successfully.
Krum advances position into side control!

Krum is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Burns is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Burns struggling a bit here.
Burns tries to buck Krum off but Krum is having none of it.
Burns manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Krum is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Burns defends it well.
Burns is pressing down on Krum's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Burns has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Krum can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Burns is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Burns is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Burns not doing much here.
Krum makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Krum.

Krum not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Burns wants to control from the top but Krum keeps moving.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Burns accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Burns pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Krum is keeping the position for now.
Burns is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Krum fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Krum checks the leg kick nicely there.
Burns missing with a left hand there. Krum was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but Predator Burns did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Burns throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Krum tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Burns is in Krum's guard.

Burns pushes a forearm under Krum's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Krum is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
