The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smiff misses with a takedown attempt - Aly sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Smiff just misses with a punch to the body.
Aly tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Smiff defends well and Aly ends up having to push Smiff into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Smiff was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.

Aly seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Smiff for as long as he can get away with.

Aly shoots in for a takedown but Smiff shows good takedown defense.

Smiff dives in and grabs Aly's left leg, looking for a takedown. Aly pushes down on Smiff's head and hops out.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Aly holds on and takes a little breather.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Mohammad Aly.
