PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ike Boyd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Hope (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ike Boyd has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ike Boyd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bob Hope!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, George Francis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boyd shoots for a takedown but Hope saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Hope unleashes a big counter combination but Boyd bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Bob Hope seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hope takes the fight into the clinch.

Hope gets control of Boyd's arms and successfully pulls guard. Hope will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Hope manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Boyd manages to get himself to full guard.

Boyd wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Boyd had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hope defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hope pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Boyd is keeping the position for now.
Hope trying to control the position from guard on top but Boyd is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hope must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Hope decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Boyd, up you get!

Boyd shoots in for a takedown but Hope shows good takedown defense.
Hope tries for a takedown but Boyd sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Boyd is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Hope.
Hope shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Boyd pinned against the cage. Boyd gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Boyd throws a quick counter head kick but Hope was just out of range.
Hope changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Boyd tries to avoid it but Hope manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Boyd to the ground. Boyd escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Ike Boyd has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bob Hope.

Hope shoots in but Boyd avoids the takedown attempt easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hope leaves Boyd with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Hope tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Boyd swivels and escapes.
Hope shoots in for a double leg but Boyd sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Hope looks winded!
Hope fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Boyd closes the distance and clinches up with Hope, looking for a takedown. Boyd pushes Hope against the cage but Hope circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Hope throws a counter combo.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Hope rushes Boyd and presses him up against the cage.
Boyd has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Hope after a bit of a struggle.
Boyd blocks a body shot from Hope.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Hope dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Hope closes the distance and clinches up with Boyd, looking for a takedown. Hope pushes Boyd against the cage but Boyd circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Hope looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Boyd fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hope avoids it really well and circles away.
Boyd shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hope defends it nicely.

Hope looks to land a combination but Boyd avoids it well.

Hope jabs Boyd to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Boyd closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hope to the mat! Hope manages to get full guard.

Hope pushes Boyd off and gets back to his feet.
Nice shot lands for Hope.
Hope lands with a cross.
Boyd stuffs the takedown attempt from Hope. Hope gets slowly back to his feet.
Boyd tries to counter by clinching up but Hope breaks away and moves out of range.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Hope drives through and clinches with Boyd against the cage.

Hope pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Hope pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Boyd throws a big counter combination but Hope scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Hope throws a head kick but Boyd moves out of range.
Hope is breathing heavily.

Hope gets a clinch.
Hope jumps guard but Boyd stands there with Hope around his waist. Hope gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Hope tries to pull guard but Boyd forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hope avoiding damage as Boyd throws knees to the body.

Hope's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Boyd crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Hope - the referee stops the clock and Boyd gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Hope. Boyd manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Hope defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Boyd.

Hope closes the distance and pushes Boyd back into the cage.
Hope changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Boyd fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Boyd leaves Hope with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Boyd tries a head kick but it misses.

Hope closes the distance and clinches.
Boyd is looking for a takedown.
Boyd wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Boyd doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Hope escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Hope clinches up against the cage.

Hope wants the takedown. Boyd is fighting it off but Hope persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Boyd's guard against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Boyd pulls Hope in to control the position.
Hope trying to control but Boyd is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bob Hope showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Boyd has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Hope is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Boyd wants to stand but Hope is controlling his posture from full guard.
Boyd might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Boyd drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Boyd jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Hope prevents Boyd from improving position.
Hope tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Boyd wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Hope takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Hope is still trying to improve position.
Hope is trying to control Boyd's posture but Boyd avoids it.

Boyd decides to stand up, so the ref orders Hope to his feet.

Boyd fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hope avoids it really well and circles away.

Ike Boyd has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bob Hope.

Hope has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Boyd gets to his feet. Hope looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Boyd shoots in looking for a takedown but Hope manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Boyd's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Boyd feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Boyd wants to control from the top but Hope keeps moving.
Boyd works over Hope with some ground and pound from guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Boyd is in close to Hope's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Ike Boyd has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bob Hope is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
