PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Luke Moreno (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fedor Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Emelianenko is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: NeiroMonk. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Luke Moreno!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fedor Emelianenko!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Illya Tyunina and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Emelianenko leaves Moreno with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Moreno could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Moreno drives through with a takedown into Emelianenko's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Emelianenko is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Moreno ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Moreno no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Emelianenko really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Moreno. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Emelianenko passes Moreno's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Moreno manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Emelianenko keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Emelianenko is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Moreno can't fight it off and eventually Emelianenko manages to take the fight to the floor. Moreno looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Moreno has momentary wrist control but Emelianenko slips an elbow through the middle.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Moreno has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Moreno pushes Emelianenko off looking to stand but Emelianenko dives back in and keeps control.

Emelianenko slips a nice elbow through Moreno's hands, connecting with Moreno's forehead.
Moreno wants to get back to his feet.
Emelianenko looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Moreno with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Moreno is breathing heavily.
Moreno moves into full guard.
Emelianenko connects with a couple of short punches.
Emelianenko working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Moreno's head.

Emelianenko thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Oh Moreno is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Emelianenko drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Emelianenko jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Moreno seems to have got his legs back now.

Moreno throws an elbow that misses. Emelianenko uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Moreno's guard. Nice move by Emelianenko!

Moreno is trying to break the clinch but Emelianenko has him pressed against the cage.

Emelianenko has clasped his hands together around Moreno's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Emelianenko can do anything to dispel that myth.

Moreno has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Emelianenko is proving hard to escape from.

That was a close second round but I would say that Luke Moreno will probably get the nod.

Emelianenko throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Moreno was covering up waiting for the punch and Emelianenko finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Emelianenko wants to control from the top but Moreno keeps moving.
Emelianenko must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Moreno will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Moreno rushes Emelianenko and presses him up against the cage.
Moreno has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Emelianenko avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Emelianenko is trying to trip Moreno. He has hold of a leg but Moreno is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Emelianenko persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Moreno is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Emelianenko is controlling him.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Moreno is on top in guard.

Emelianenko is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Moreno wants to get up but he can't break Emelianenko's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Fedor Emelianenko comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I have no idea who won that fight. Let's wait and see whether the judges are as confused as me! Time for a split decision perhaps?!. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
