Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between German Cooper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sverre Nilson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sverre Nilson will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, German Cooper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sverre Nilson!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Tarja Halkonen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cooper gets caught flat footed, as Nilson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Cooper wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Nilson manages to pass to side control.

Cooper is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Nilson is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Nilson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Cooper sees it coming and defends easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cooper actively working from the bottom here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nilson thows a huge punch but Cooper dodges it nicely.
Nilson missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Nilson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Cooper looking for submissions off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Nilson is pressing down on Cooper's thigh, looking to free his foot. Cooper is holding on for now.

Cooper could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Cooper wants to clinch.

Nilson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Cooper quickly recovers to half guard.
Nilson wants to take a breather but Cooper is having none of it.

Nilson gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Nilson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Cooper to the ground. Nilson is now in Cooper's guard.
Nilson is standing up over Cooper. Cooper looks to escape but Nilson dives into side control.


Nilson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Nilson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Cooper might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Nilson controls the position from side control.
Cooper is not content to let Nilson control the position.

Nilson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cooper was covering up waiting for the punch and Nilson finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Nilson throws a big right hand that misses.
Nilson wants to control from the top but Cooper keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cooper is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Nilson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Nilson is continuing to stall.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Cooper wants to stand and escape but Nilson is having none of it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Nilson has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Cooper moves into the clinch.

Nilson has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Cooper regains guard immediately.

Cooper can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Nilson controls the pace.

Cooper looking for a guillotine here but Nilson defends easily.
Nilson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Nilson trying to control but Cooper is working from the bottom.

Nilson gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Nilson slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Nilson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Cooper is looking for a sweep. Nilson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Nilson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Cooper sees it coming and defends easily.
Nilson not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Nilson trying to mount his opponent but Cooper defends it.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Nilson seems to be looking for submissions.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sverre Nilson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!


Cooper tries to close the distance and clinch up but Nilson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Nilson lands with a nice combination. Cooper backs away looking to recover.
Cooper shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Nilson as he jumps to the side.

Nilson closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Cooper's guard.
Cooper not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Cooper is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Nilson is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Nilson decides to stand back up.
Nilson shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Cooper eats them both and turns towards Nilson to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Nilson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Nilson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Cooper wants to control but Nilson postures up.

Nilson controls the position.
The strikes coming from Nilson are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Nilson stands up.

Nilson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Cooper tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Nilson is in Cooper's guard.
Cooper is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Nilson dives into side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.


Nilson decides to stand back up.
Cooper fails in his attempt to clinch.

Nilson closes the distance and clinches.

Nilson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Nilson gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Nilson.

Cooper scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Sverre Nilson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cooper gets tackled into the cage by Nilson. Nilson maintains the clinch.
Nilson lands with a short head shot on the inside.

Nilson manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Cooper has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Nilson wants to sweep but no luck.
Cooper wants to stand but Nilson is controlling his posture from full guard.
Cooper stops Nilson from standing up.
Nilson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
German Cooper has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Sverre Nilson is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Cooper wants to stand but Nilson has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sverre Nilson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Nilson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
