Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Vesa Sykk and Volya Nikolaev. Sykk comes to the cage accompanied by Rage Against The Machine - Killing In The Name . Nikolaev has chosen Fever as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 34 wins, 19 losses and 1 draws, fighting out of Montreal, Vesa Sykk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 31 wins, 23 losses and 0 draws, fighting out of St Petersburg, Volya Nikolaev!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Paul Tew and Chris Edwards.



The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nikolaev takes one to the chin there.
Sykk throws a body punch but Nikolaev moves out of range.
Nikolaev uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Sykk.
Sykk throws an off balance right hand
and Nikolaev counters with a stiff right hand.
Sykk throws a body kick that misses

and Nikolaev counters with a single leg into guard. Sykk didn't expect that.
Sykk can't keep his opponent in guard - Nikolaev advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Sykk keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Nikolaev throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
We've been hearing good reports from Sykk's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Nikolaev is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sykk defends it well.
Nikolaev slows the pace down in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sykk avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Nikolaev.

Sykk pushes Nikolaev off looking to stand but Nikolaev dives back in and keeps control.
Sykk is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Sykk wants to control but Nikolaev is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Nikolaev is nestled in close to Sykk, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Sykk is pressing down on Nikolaev's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Nikolaev throws an elbow that misses. Sykk uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Nikolaev's guard. Nice move by Sykk!

Sykk has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Nikolaev to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Sykk is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Nikolaev pulls down on the head and he's put Sykk to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Volya Nikolaev!
Volya Nikolaev took to the mic after the fight and begged the organizational hierarchy for a shot at the title.
