Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Harry Rodriquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Doug Welder!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Welder looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Welder slips a nice elbow through Rodriquez's hands, connecting with Rodriquez's forehead.
Welder is taking a breather. Rodriquez says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Welder is thwarting Rodriquez's attempts to control the position.
Welder stops Rodriquez from getting back to his feet.
Welder wants to pass to mount but Rodriquez is defending the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Welder content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Welder's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Let's hope that Welder has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Rodriquez is defending against the submission attempts here by Welder.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Welder sitting and controlling from the half guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Doug Welder seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Welder will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Rodriquez gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Welder to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Welder engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Rodriquez is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Welder is stalling in the full guard.

Welder thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rodriquez is wriggling around but Welder manages to pass to half guard.
Well, if Welder is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Welder is trying to work for a kimura but Rodriquez is defending well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Welder looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Doug Welder dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Welder drives through with a takedown into guard.

Rodriquez uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Rodriquez could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Welder looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Welder has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Welder throws a right and a left that both miss.
Rodriquez takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Welder closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Rodriquez to the mat! Rodriquez manages to get full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Welder gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Welder closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Doug Welder has got the better of the ground game so far.
Welder wants to free his trapped foot but Rodriquez is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Welder in particular looking to stall.
Welder is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Welder sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Rodriquez is trying to stand up here but Welder is controlling him well.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Welder content to control rather than advance.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Welder.

Welder is pressing down on Rodriquez's thigh, looking to free his foot. Rodriquez is holding on for now.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Welder dives in and gets a big takedown. He lands in full mount and immediately unloads a series of heavy strikes! Rodriquez has had enough and taps out.
