PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Micky Pavano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Walcott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Pavano might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Trash Tongue Talker. Micky Pavano could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Joe Walcott's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Micky Pavano!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Walcott!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Donald Grub and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pavano fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Walcott, pushing him back against the cage.
Walcott is pressed up against the cage. Pavano has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Walcott down to the mat. Walcott avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
A big left from Pavano misses.

Pavano scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Pavano is putting a hurting on Walcott here, landing some big shots from side control.
Walcott takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Walcott is trying to get back to half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Pavano cracks Walcott with a big right hand but Walcott just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Pavano postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Walcott parries the strikes from Pavano easily there. Pavano is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Walcott to escape.

Pavano lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Walcott down.
Pavano has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Pavano swings around for an armbar but Walcott sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Pavano's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Pavano is on top in guard.

Walcott felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pavano thows a huge punch but Walcott dodges it nicely.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Walcott preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Pavano seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Walcott does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Walcott really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pavano. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Pavano goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Walcott turns into him and now he's in Pavano's guard.

Pavano is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Walcott throws a hook but Pavano avoids it easily.
Pavano is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.


It looks like Micky Pavano has been cut.
Pavano misses with a low kick as Walcott jumps back.
Pavano lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Walcott ducks right into an uppercut from Pavano.
Pavano motions for Walcott to come forward. Pavano throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Walcott moves away from the strike by Pavano.
It seemed like Walcott was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Pavano throws out a loose jab but Walcott uses good head movement to avoid it.
Walcott is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Pavano with a body shot.
Pavano takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Walcott just misses with a punch to the body.

and Walcott counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Walcott.

Pavano decides to pull guard.
Pavano looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Pavano is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Pavano has his foot on Walcott's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Walcott works his way back into a safe position though.

Pavano escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Walcott gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Pavano has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Walcott is working away from the top position though.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Pavano feints and as Walcott raises his hands in defense, Pavano changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Walcott can do anything to dispel that myth.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Walcott is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Pavano.

Pavano looks to throw the jab but Walcott is out of range.
Pavano closes this distance looking for a takedown but Walcott circles away.
Pavano tried to score with a low kick but Walcott checks it.

Walcott scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Walcott scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Walcott throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Pavano sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Pavano is looking to slow Walcott down with leg kicks.
Pavano does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Walcott tries a quick counter leg kick but Pavano is wise to it.

and Walcott counters with a thumping low kick.
Joe Walcott seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Pavano throws the left hand but Walcott avoids the punch easily.
Pavano throws a shot from downtown. Walcott moves away and avoids it.
Walcott replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Pavano blocks it well.

Walcott takes a swing at Pavano's ribcage but misses.
Good standup being displayed there by Walcott as he connects with a hook.
Pavano tries to score a power double leg takedown but Walcott sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pavano somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Micky Pavano. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Pavano takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Walcott throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Pavano keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Pavano is working for takedown but Walcott is calmly controlling the position for now.

I would just about give that final round to Joe Walcott.
I think Walcott has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
