PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Denis Gotsov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Carneiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carneiro comes into a darkened arena with his song building. The Rasmus - In the Shadows kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Denis Gotsov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 37 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Daniel Carneiro!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Saam Ante and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carneiro closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Gotsov drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
A bit of stalling here from Carneiro.
Gotsov could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Gotsov tries to score a body lock takedown but Carneiro shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Gotsov has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Carneiro avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Denis Gotsov. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gotsov tries to score a body lock takedown but Carneiro shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Carneiro's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Gotsov wants to clinch up but Carneiro keeps it at a distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carneiro lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.


It looks like Denis Gotsov has been cut.
The fight stays on the outside here - Gotsov looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Carneiro with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Carneiro moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gotsov throws a half hearted mid kick.
Carneiro cracks a nice hook into Gotsov's ribs.
Daniel Carneiro seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Carneiro scores with a takedown into Gotsov's guard.
Gotsov keeping moving, preventing Carneiro from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carneiro passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Carneiro trying to control the action but Gotsov is working from the bottom.
Carneiro is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Carneiro prevents Gotsov from escaping the position.

Carneiro is trying to get an arm triangle but Gotsov is defending well.
Carneiro trying to control the action but Gotsov is working from the bottom.

Carneiro tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Gotsov on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Gotsov tries to get out of the position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Carneiro wants to control but Gotsov is keeping him busy.

Carneiro is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Gotsov looks calm but he's in trouble here. Carneiro gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Gotsov is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Carneiro lets go of the hold and Gotsov can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Daniel Carneiro!
