Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Columbus Wells (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sharty Waffles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Columbus Wells!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sharty Waffles!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Roosa Järviläinen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Wells throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Waffles was covering up waiting for the punch and Wells finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Wells could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Wells stopping the sweep attempt from Waffles.
Waffles has his hands on Wells's head, controlling the position.
Waffles wants to stand but Wells is controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wells trying to control but Waffles is working from the bottom.

Waffles looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Waffles is controlling Wells's posture.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Wells.
Despite the aggression on Waffles's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Wells is looking to clinch but Waffles is avoiding it.
Wells is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Waffles is looking for the big counter here.
Waffles throws a right and a left that both miss.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Wells fails in his attempt to clinch.
Wells moves out of range as Waffles throws a body kick.
Wells tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Waffles counters with a series of strikes. Wells will be more careful next time no doubt.

Wells tries to work over Waffles's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

The fight stays on the outside here - Wells looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Waffles lands a head kick!
Wells tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Waffles manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Waffles unleashes a big counter combination but Wells bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Waffles throws a front kick aimed at Wells's knee but Wells avoids it well.
Waffles defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Wells.

Wells clinches.

Wells struggles to land a body shot inside as Waffles controls his hands.
Waffles is trying to push Wells away but Wells has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Wells stalls.

Waffles breaks the clinch.
Waffles connects with a nice looking jab.
Waffles tries a head kick but it misses.
Waffles misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Wells tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Waffles manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Wells tries to score a power double leg takedown but Waffles sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Wells somewhat.
Waffles is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Wells shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Waffles sprawls well. Waffles wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Wells gets slowly back to his feet.
Waffles lands a nice leg kick that just misses Wells's sensitive parts.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wells tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Waffles counters with a two punch combo.
Waffles misses with a few strikes there.

Waffles throws a lazy body kick

and Wells counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Waffles tries to roll over but Wells keeps him under control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wells performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Wells has one foot on Waffles's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Wells fails with an attempt to clinch.
Waffles is trying to counter with his kicks.
Wells doesn't manage to clinch there - Waffles circles away.
Waffles unleashes a big counter combination but Wells bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
A nice leg kick lands there from Waffles.
Wells fails to land the takedown.
Wells throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Waffles's waist but Waffles gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Wells off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Columbus Wells. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Waffles is looking to chop away at Wells's legs.

Waffles tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Wells tries to close the distance and clinch up but Waffles swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Waffles connects with an inside leg kick.
Wells looks to clinch
and Waffles counters with a one-two to the body.
Wells tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Waffles swivels and escapes.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Waffles thows a body kick. Wells tries to catch it but that hurt him.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sharty Waffles showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


A low kick from Waffles is predictable there
and Wells counters with a one-two to the body.
Wells chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Waffles can pounce on him.
Wells shoots in looking for a takedown. Waffles tries to sprawl out of it but Wells keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Waffles manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Waffles shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Waffles showed some decent athleticism there.

Waffles controlling the action here.
Let's hope that Waffles has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Wells moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Waffles trying to control but Wells is working from the bottom.
Waffles is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Waffles.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Waffles throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Waffles swats away the attempt to clinch by Wells.
Wells fails in his attempt to clinch.
Waffles keeps the fight on the outside.

Wells closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Waffles wants to get back to striking at distance but Wells won't allow it.
Wells tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Waffles smiles and moves away.
Waffles throws the kick towards the body but Wells avoids it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wells tries to close the distance and clinch up but Waffles swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Columbus Wells is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Wells goes for a double leg but Waffles avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Waffles continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Columbus Wells. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Waffles drives through with a takedown into guard.
Waffles lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Wells is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Waffles stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wells swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Columbus Wells overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Waffles wants to control from the top but Wells keeps moving.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sharty Waffles comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Waffles winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Sharty Waffles decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
