PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steven Fromm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt St Pierre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fromm comes to the cage accompanied by YMCA. Steven Fromm looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Steven Fromm!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matt St Pierre!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Ben Hemmingworth and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fromm rushes St Pierre and presses him up against the cage.
Fromm is trying to pull guard but St Pierre turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
A bit of stalling here from St Pierre.

St Pierre pulls guard successfully.
Fromm is fighting to break St Pierre's control of his arms but St Pierre is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
St Pierre has a closed guard, preventing Fromm from standing up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fromm wants to stand and escape but instead St Pierre has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Fromm wants to stand up but St Pierre is controlling him.

St Pierre is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
St Pierre forces his way into half guard.
Fromm tries to kick St Pierre off but St Pierre keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
St Pierre's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Let's hope that St Pierre has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

St Pierre seems to be looking for submissions.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Fromm pushes St Pierre off looking to stand but St Pierre dives back in and keeps control.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

St Pierre fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Fromm, pushing him back against the cage.
We've been informed that St Pierre has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
St Pierre tries to stall but Fromm uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Fromm blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
St Pierre tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Fromm fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Fromm definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Fromm is trying to drag St Pierre to the mat but St Pierre just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steven Fromm. That's going to take a lot out of him.
St Pierre is trying to pull guard but Fromm has him pressed against the cage.

Fromm has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by St Pierre.
St Pierre stuffs the takedown attempt from Fromm. Fromm gets slowly back to his feet.

Fromm throws a series of strikes that have St Pierre backpedaling.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

St Pierre lets loose with a powerful body kick. Fromm will feel that in the morning.
Fromm takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Fromm tries to bum rush St Pierre with a series of wild strikes but St Pierre uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
St Pierre tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A decent looking body kick lands there for St Pierre.
Fromm takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Fromm on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

St Pierre is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Fromm is defending well for now.

Fromm escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Fromm throws a head kick but St Pierre moves out of range.
St Pierre tries to clinch up but Fromm circles away and keeps his distance.
Fromm drops down looking for a counter takedown but St Pierre sprawls and moves away.
Fromm tries to bum rush St Pierre with a series of wild strikes but St Pierre uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
St Pierre feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Fromm's calf.
St Pierre dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Fromm. That did some damage!
St Pierre is looking to clinch but Fromm is avoiding it.
Fromm appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

St Pierre feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Fromm's calf.

St Pierre dives in and grabs Fromm's left leg, looking for a takedown. Fromm pushes down on St Pierre's head and hops out.
Steven Fromm has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt St Pierre.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by St Pierre.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Fromm takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Fromm uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before St Pierre has time to react.
St Pierre lands a leg kick that knocks Fromm off balance momentarily.

and St Pierre counters with a leg kick.
Fromm tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Fromm sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

St Pierre drives through and clinches with Fromm against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
St Pierre is stalling here.
Fromm throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but St Pierre blocks it with crossed arms.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

St Pierre pulls guard.
St Pierre controlling Fromm's posture.
We're seeing a lot of stalling here from St Pierre.

St Pierre is looking to cinch up a triangle. Fromm throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to St Pierre's body to avoid the submission. St Pierre has instead reached around Fromm's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! St Pierre arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:54 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Matt St Pierre!
Steven Fromm was interviewed post fight and said 'I got have naked and wrestled another man, that's still a win in my book...'.
