PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Solomon Hoffman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Red (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Red closes the distance and clinches.
Hoffman is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Red gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Red pulls guard effortlessly.
Hoffman lands a couple of elbows.
Hoffman could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Hoffman's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Hoffman working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Hoffman really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...

Hoffman decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Red, up you get!
Hoffman wants to clinch up but Red keeps it at a distance.
Jason Red seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Red looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Hoffman manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Red keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Red's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Red successfully pulls guard.
Hoffman with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Hoffman might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Hoffman lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hoffman throws a big elbow that misses.

Hoffman stands and steps away. Red gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Red fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hoffman sprawls well initially but Red persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Hoffman pushes Red off and gets back to his feet.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Red throws a combination. Hoffman tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Hoffman gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Hoffman kicks Red off and gets to his feet.
Red looks winded!
Red misses with a body shot.
Hoffman tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Red manages to circle out of the way.
Hoffman throws a big shot that misses.

Red closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Red lands in his opponent's guard.

Hoffman pushes Red off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hoffman lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Red moves into the clinch.
Red looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Red has Hoffman pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Red pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Hoffman tumbling to the mat - Red dives into Hoffman's guard.

Hoffman manages to escape and get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Red gets a takedown into half guard.

Hoffman kicks Red off and gets back to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Red shoots in and gets a takedown into Hoffman's guard.

Hoffman pushes Red off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Red feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Hoffman manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Hoffman rushes Red and presses him up against the cage.
Hoffman is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Hoffman goes for a takedown in the clinch but Red prevents it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Red gets control of Hoffman's arms and successfully pulls guard. Red will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Hoffman drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Hoffman as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Red screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Hoffman! Nice submission victory there!
