Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Paul Gottard!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Micheangelo Fripello and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gottard throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Dennis misses with a takedown attempt - Gottard sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Gottard shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Gottard showed some decent athleticism there.
Dennis is trying to escape back to his feet but Gottard uses the scramble to pass into side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gottard tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Gottard in side control, throwing shots but Dennis defends.

Gottard thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Gottard goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Dennis rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Gottard's guard! Nice work there by Dennis!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gottard lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Dennis working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Gottard.
Gottard throws a big elbow that misses.
Gottard has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Gottard stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Dennis fails in his attempt to clinch.

Gottard shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Gottard was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Gottard wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Dennis, who protects the arm well.

Dennis is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

Gottard working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Dennis is trying to buck Gottard off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Gottard dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Gottard is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Dennis avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Dennis wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Dennis tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Gottard paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Gottard looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Dennis kicks off Gottard and gets to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Gottard controls the position.
Dennis is looking to get back to his feet here but Gottard is keeping cool and he's managed to take Dennis's back.

Dennis is trying to get back to his feet but Gottard has full control of the position and if anything, Dennis has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Gottard patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

Dennis can't escape the position.
Gottard biding his time, looking for the opening.
Dennis wants to get back to his feet.

Gottard has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Dennis is defending well but eventually Gottard manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Dennis has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!
