PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Willie Salazar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hyman Krustofski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Krustofski is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Shell Shocked. Hyman Krustofski told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Willie Salazar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hyman Krustofski!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Roosa Järviläinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Salazar with a hook.
Salazar dodges the punch combination from Krustofski.
Salazar takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Krustofski shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Salazar but Salazar pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Salazar fails in his attempt to clinch.
Krustofski keeps the fight on the outside.
Salazar takes a shot right to the bread basket.

Salazar closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Krustofski drops down looking for an ankle pick but Salazar pulls his leg out and moves away.
No luck for Krustofski with that takedown attempt.
Willie Salazar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hyman Krustofski.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Salazar shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Salazar was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Salazar decides to stand up, so the ref orders Krustofski to his feet.

Krustofski tries to keep at a distance but Salazar has taken the fight into the clinch.

Krustofski lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Salazar avoids the elbow strike from Krustofski, against the cage.
Salazar's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Krustofski wants to take the fight to the mat but Salazar manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
A right hook to the body lands for Salazar.
Salazar blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Krustofski lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Salazar goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Salazar pushes Krustofski back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Krustofski's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Krustofski has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Salazar avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Salazar is pushing Krustofski up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Krustofski tries a body shot but Salazar blocks it.

Salazar is trying to force a seperation but Krustofski has the dominant position.
Salazar is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Krustofski to keep the fight standing.

Salazar tries to break free but Krustofski pushes him back against the cage.
Krustofski throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Salazar blocks it with crossed arms.
Salazar misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Krustofski.

Salazar gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Krustofski regains guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

We've been hearing good reports from Salazar's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Salazar is really struggling to control Krustofski but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Salazar seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Salazar is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Krustofski is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Krustofski can't keep his opponent in guard - Salazar advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Krustofski wants to improve his position but Salazar is controlling well.
Salazar wants to free his trapped foot but Krustofski is holding on for dear life with his legs.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Still in half guard, Salazar seems content to control.
Krustofski is staying active underneath Salazar, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Krustofski can do anything to dispel that myth.

Salazar decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Krustofski throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
It looked like Salazar was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Krustofski looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Salazar is fending him off so far but Krustofski persists. Nope, Salazar circles away and we're back to standing.

Salazar is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Krustofski is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Salazar is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Salazar has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Krustofski can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Krustofski got a little sloppy there for a moment and Salazar has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Krustofski has managed to get both his arms back between Salazar's legs - danger averted.
Salazar controls Krustofski momentarily but Krustofski frees himself.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Salazar tries to close the distance and clinch but Krustofski swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Salazar bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

It seemed like Krustofski was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

I think Salazar has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
