Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Aron Karlsson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hiroshi Ekaku (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Aron Karlsson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hiroshi Ekaku!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Lou da Vinci and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ekaku misses with a left hand

and Karlsson counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Karlsson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ekaku is just riding it out for now. Karlsson eventually gives up the hold.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Karlsson has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Ekaku can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Karlsson controls the pace.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Our spies down at at Convicted Fight Club inform us that Ekaku has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Karlsson's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Karlsson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ekaku has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Karlsson has managed to get both his arms back between Ekaku's legs - danger averted.

Ekaku controls Karlsson momentarily but Karlsson frees himself.
Ekaku might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Karlsson haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Karlsson is pressing down on Ekaku's thigh, looking to free his foot. Ekaku is holding on for now.
Ekaku moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Karlsson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Ekaku stuffs the takedown attempt from Karlsson. Karlsson gets slowly back to his feet.

Karlsson wants to clinch up but Ekaku keeps it at a distance.
Ekaku cracks Karlsson with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Karlsson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Karlsson goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Ekaku has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Karlsson but great work by Ekaku.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Ekaku creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Ekaku blocks a body shot from Karlsson.
Ekaku jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Karlsson walks away with a smile on his face. Ekaku gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Ekaku throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

so Karlsson counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Aron Karlsson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Ekaku looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Karlsson seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Ekaku has his hands clasped together around Karlsson's back. He's all about the action.
Karlsson is trying to control the action in half guard but Ekaku is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Ekaku has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Karlsson is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Ekaku.
