TWGC 16 (145lbs, D1): Las Vegas Qualifier - Round 1 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a featherweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between James Krause and Kazuka Fuujin. Krause comes to the cage accompanied by Heart of a Champion. Fuujin has chosen his shirt says "bout to smack the stepchild out you" as his entrance music. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Kazuka Fuujin enters the cage!

This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the featherweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of London, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 1 losses; James Krause! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 18 wins and 9 losses; Kazuka Fuujin!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Tiny Johnson and Wesley Smith.


The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Fuujin shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Krause's guard.

Krause is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Fuujin defends well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Krause escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Fuujin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Krause is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Krause can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Fuujin controls the pace.
Let's hope that Fuujin has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Fuujin is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Fuujin has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Convicted Fight Club. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Krause has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Fuujin is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Krause.

Krause bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Krause got a little sloppy there for a moment and Fuujin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Krause has managed to get both his arms back between Fuujin's legs - danger averted.

Krause is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Fuujin is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Fuujin has escaped and now he's on top!

Fuujin sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Krause's guard.

Krause is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Well, if Fuujin is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Fuujin wins on points by 15 to 2.
An out of breath Kazuka Fuujin thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
James Krause was interviewed post fight and said 'I want a rematch. I'll beat him in the next one, just as I did with everyone who was lucky enough to beat me in Highland Games.'.
