Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between James Richard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sam Smith!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Donatello Bradman and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith shoots in but no luck this time.
Richard stuffs the takedown attempt from Smith. Smith gets slowly back to his feet.
Richard throws a jab when Smith was well out of range.
Richard shoots for a takedown but Smith saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Richard rushes Smith and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Smith goes for a takedown in the clinch but Richard prevents it.
James Richard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sam Smith.

Smith has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Richard uses from the top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smith shoots for a double leg takedown but Richard sprawls well. He's pushed Smith's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Richard is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Smith.

and Richard counters with a nice low kick that buckles Smith's knee momentarily.

Sam Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Smith stalks Richard and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Richard's face. Richard staggers backwards, shaken.

Richard shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Richard was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Smith dodges the ground and pound from Richard.
Smith takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Richard breaks Smith's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Richard keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Smith's head.

Smith isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Richard stacks Smith on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Richard!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Smith takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Richard fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Smith tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Richard manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Smith shoots in looking for a takedown but Richard manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Smith's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Nice takedown defense from Richard. No joy for Smith on that attempt.
Richard throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Smith's waist but Smith gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Richard off to one side.
