PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Newton Salas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pete Flynn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Flynn has chosen The Landlord's Walk as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Newton Salas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pete Flynn!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Yves DeLean and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Salas misses with a series of wild punches.

Flynn shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Salas napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Flynn decides to stand back up.

Flynn dives in and scores a takedown into Salas's guard.
Flynn is looking to stand up but Salas won't let him.

Salas working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Flynn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Flynn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Salas has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Flynn can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Flynn not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Salas isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Flynn stacks Salas on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Flynn!

Flynn decides to stand back up. Flynn steps back and let's Salas get back to his feet.

Salas is not content to let Flynn control the position.

Flynn decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Flynn slaps away a takedown attempt from Salas, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Flynn misses with a few strikes there.
Salas swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Flynn gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Salas could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Flynn breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Salas moves forwards but Flynn connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Flynn closes the distance and pushes Salas back into the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Flynn putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Salas in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.

Flynn escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Flynn's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Flynn throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Flynn has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Flynn gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Salas.

Flynn turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Flynn manages to end up in side control.

Salas is wriggling around trying to escape.
Flynn takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Pete Flynn showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Pete Flynn is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Salas has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Flynn's face.
Salas lands a heavy elbow.

Salas is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Flynn to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Flynn shrugs it off.
Flynn can't escape the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Flynn is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Pete Flynn comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Flynn has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
