The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Metaxas uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Faria.
Metaxas lands a glancing blow to the side of Faria's head.
Faria tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Metaxas paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Metaxas ducks right into an uppercut from Faria.

It looks like Atlas Metaxas has been cut.
Metaxas scores with the left hand. Faria knows he should have avoided that one.
Faria throws a lazy right hand but Metaxas sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Metaxas looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Faria tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Metaxas avoids it.

Metaxas tries to pull guard but Faria forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Faria lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Metaxas fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Metaxas has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Faria uses from the top position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Faria content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Metaxas is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Metaxas is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Faria is aware though and is defending well.

Metaxas working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Faria doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Faria manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That has opened up Atlas Metaxas's cut even more.
Metaxas controls Faria momentarily but Faria frees himself.

Metaxas had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Faria defends it easily.
Faria makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Faria won't allow Metaxas to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Abbe Faria will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Faria shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Faria tries to clinch but Metaxas moves out of range.
Good exchange - Faria coming out on top.
Faria finds Metaxas's off switch, with a big overhand right that connects perfectly to the side of the head! Metaxas flops back against the cage, eyes gazing into the distance. Faria lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure Metaxas will be OK.
