PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Darwin Dixon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roman Santrach (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Darwin Dixon has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Darwin Dixon seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Darwin Dixon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Roman Santrach!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Dean Styles and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Santrach looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Dixon bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Santrach's guard.

Santrach looking for a sweep. Not yet Santrach, not yet.
Dixon is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Santrach looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Dixon puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dixon is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Santrach closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Santrach lands in his opponent's guard.
Dixon is pulling down on Santrach's head to control his posture.

Dixon throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Santrach not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Dixon wants to sweep here but Santrach controlling him for the moment.
Santrach sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Dixon's guard.
Santrach is looking to advance position but Dixon won't allow it.
Santrach wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dixon keeps working.
Santrach throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Santrach thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Dixon is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Santrach's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Santrach's back!

Santrach is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Dixon.
Dixon seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Santrach for as long as he can get away with.

Santrach decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Dixon might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Dixon is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Santrach's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Santrach's back!
Santrach just trying to survive but Dixon is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Santrach is trying to get back to his feet but Dixon has full control of the position and if anything, Santrach has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Santrach can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Dixon controls the pace.

Dixon stands and steps away. Santrach gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Santrach shoots in and gets a takedown into Dixon's guard.

Dixon is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Santrach presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Santrach is breathing heavily.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Dixon moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Dixon is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Santrach can do to turn this around?
Santrach wants to control from the top but Dixon keeps moving.
Darwin Dixon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Dixon is on top in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Santrach is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Dixon takes a head kick and keeps coming.


It looks like Darwin Dixon has been cut.
Santrach scores with a crisp jab that stopped Dixon in his tracks.
Santrach moves in looking to clinch but Dixon pushes him off.
Santrach tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Dixon manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Dixon thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Dixon prevents Santrach from escaping the position.
Santrach is looking to regain half guard here but Dixon keeps moving and retains side control.
Roman Santrach has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Dixon remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Dixon goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Santrach rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Dixon's guard! Nice work there by Santrach!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Darwin Dixon.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Dixon, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
