PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Idriss Akinfenwa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Johns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Akinfenwa's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Rim'k - Monster. Jimmy Johns is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Idriss Akinfenwa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jimmy Johns!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yukihiro Shimada and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Akinfenwa shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Johns's guard.

Johns bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Akinfenwa's guard.

Akinfenwa has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Johns drops back looking for a leg! Akinfenwa is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Akinfenwa manages to kick Johns off! Johns jumps back into Akinfenwa's guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Akinfenwa working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Johns doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Johns manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Johns stands and steps away. Akinfenwa gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Akinfenwa pushes a forearm under Johns's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Johns is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Idriss Akinfenwa decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
