PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jimmie Connor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ruslan Khabilov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Connor has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jimmie Connor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Ruslan Khabilov!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Steve Smith and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khabilov changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Connor tries to avoid it but Khabilov manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Connor to the ground. Connor escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Nice sprawl there from Khabilov as Connor shoots in.
Khabilov changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Connor shoots in but Khabilov avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Khabilov throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Connor's waist but Connor gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Khabilov off to one side.
Khabilov fails to land the takedown.
Connor is looking to counter with head kicks.
Jimmie Connor has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ruslan Khabilov.

Khabilov misses with a jab, cross combination.
Khabilov misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Khabilov shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Connor as he jumps to the side.
Connor gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Khabilov counters with a left and a right that stings Connor.
Connor is breathing heavily.

Khabilov tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Connor defends well and Khabilov ends up having to push Connor into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

and Connor takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Khabilov shoots in looking for a takedown but Connor manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Khabilov's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Connor stuffs the takedown attempt from Khabilov. Khabilov gets slowly back to his feet.
Connor is looking for a counter combo.
Khabilov takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

Connor forces Khabilov back against the cage and clinches.

Khabilov breaks from the clinch.

Khabilov has taken the fight to the clinch.
Connor is looking to control Khabilov's arms but Khabilov gets an underhook and turns him. Now Connor has his back to the cage.
Connor tries for a takedown. No joy.

Connor's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Khabilov tries for a takedown but Connor circles away easily
and Connor counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Khabilov gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Connor pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Khabilov comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Connor stuffs the takedown.

Connor wants to clinch but Khabilov slips to the side
and Connor takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Khabilov lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Khabilov shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Connor as he avoids it easily.
Connor circles away from the clinch attempt.
Connor half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Connor clinches with his opponent.
Khabilov throws a knee to the head but misses.
Khabilov lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Connor backwards.

Connor breaks the clinch.

Khabilov has managed to clinch.
Connor is trying to drag Khabilov to the mat but Khabilov just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Khabilov wants a takedown but no success here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Khabilov breaks the clinch.
Khabilov fails to land the takedown.
Decent striking displayed by Khabilov there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Khabilov misses with an attempted mid kick.
Khabilov looks for a takedown but Connor sprawls well.
Connor shoots in and drives through. Khabilov sprawls well.
Khabilov raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Good standup being displayed there by Khabilov as he connects with a hook.

Khabilov moves into the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ruslan Khabilov dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Khabilov looks for a takedown but Connor sprawls well.
Horrible takedown attempt by Connor or perhaps it was just good defense by Khabilov, which made it look bad.

Khabilov drops Connor with a beautiful combination! Connor stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Khabilov is looking for the KO!


Connor is rocked!


It looks like Jimmie Connor has been cut.
Khabilov throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Connor changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Oh Connor is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Khabilov closes the distance and clinches.
Khabilov has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Connor is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Khabilov manages to break the clinch.
Khabilov tries a head kick but it misses.

Khabilov clinches.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Connor can't find room to land a body shot as Khabilov controls the action.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
A frustrated look appears on Connor's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Jimmie Connor was interviewed post fight and said 'I'LL GET BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD AND SEE WHAT WENT WRONG , I WILL BE BACK '.
