Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Thiago Cavalcanti Azevedo!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Michael Paine!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, William Gold and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Azevedo closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Paine's guard.
Azevedo definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Azevedo wants to pass the guard but Paine is keeping the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Paine is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Azevedo is controlling him.
Azevedo controlling from the top position.
Azevedo won't allow Paine to sweep him here.
Paine being controlled here, momentarily.
Paine is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Azevedo drops back looking for a leg! Paine is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Paine manages to kick Azevedo off! Azevedo jumps back into Paine's guard.
Paine tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Azevedo wants to control from the top but Paine keeps moving.
Paine really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Azevedo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Paine manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Azevedo dives in and grabs Paine's left leg, looking for a takedown. Paine pushes down on Azevedo's head and hops out.
As Azevedo backs off Paine throws a huge counter combo but Azevedo manages to avoid it all.
Azevedo tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Paine defends well and Azevedo ends up having to push Paine into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
No luck for Azevedo with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Thiago Cavalcanti Azevedo. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Paine throws a shot to the body.

Azevedo has his takedown stuffed
and Paine counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Paine changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Paine doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Paine jabs Azevedo to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Paine connects with a crisp jab.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

and Paine counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Paine has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Paine swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Azevedo.

letting Paine counter with a right hand.

Paine bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Azevedo's head backwards.
Azevedo doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Paine connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Azevedo tries to keep at a distance but Paine has taken the fight into the clinch.
Azevedo's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Paine breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Paine lands a right hook to the body.
Paine throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Azevedo feints and as Paine raises his hands in defense, Azevedo changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Paine pulls Azevedo in close to prevent any damage.
Paine looking to control.
Azevedo controlling from the top position.
Paine trying to control the position.
Paine wants to stand and escape but Azevedo is having none of it.
Azevedo works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Azevedo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Paine keeps working.
Paine pushes Azevedo off looking to stand but Azevedo dives back in and keeps control.

Paine makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Paine keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
A little jabbing left from Paine on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Michael Paine dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Paine throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Azevedo stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Paine has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Azevedo walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Azevedo takes one to the chin there.
Azevedo shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Paine counters with a nice uppercut.
Paine scores with a crisp jab that stopped Azevedo in his tracks.

Paine lands with an overhand left.
Azevedo shoots in but Paine avoids the takedown attempt easily.
A nice side step and Paine releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Paine sends Azevedo crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Paine is motioning to the referee to let Azevedo up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!


Azevedo is rocked!
Paine lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Oh Azevedo is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Paine smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Paine cracks Azevedo with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Azevedo tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Paine pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Azevedo is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Michael Paine!

Michael Paine seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
