The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Eddie Farnsworth and Russell Pearce.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lane Jr lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Maximez circles away quickly and effectively.
Nice body kick from Lane Jr.
Lane Jr cracks Maximez with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Lane Jr misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Maximez tries to counter with a takedown but Lane Jr is quick to defend against it.

Lane Jr looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Maximez is looking for a sweep. Lane Jr is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Lane Jr wants to stand up but Maximez has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Maximez is looking for a triangle but Lane Jr pushes his legs off easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Maximez preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Lane Jr wants to stand but Maximez is controlling his posture from full guard.
Lane Jr throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Maximez works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Maximez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lane Jr doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lane Jr manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Maximez seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Lane Jr for as long as he can get away with.

That was a close round but I would say that Joe Maximez will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Joe Maximez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Maximez's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

and Maximez counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Maximez looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Maximez has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
