TWGC 16 (145lbs, D1): London Qualifier - Round 2 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a featherweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between David Yung and Ivan Putski. Yung comes to the cage accompanied by 陳小春 - 亂世巨星. Putski has chosen Aids as his entrance music. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the featherweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of London, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 2 losses; David Yung! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 10 wins and 5 losses; Ivan Putski!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Paul Tew and Daniel Bishop.


The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Putski drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Yung is looking for a sweep.
Yung stops Putski from passing to mount.

Putski is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Yung knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Putski content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Yung manages to get back to half guard.

Yung is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Yung moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Putski stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Yung swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Yung has his foot on Putski's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Putski works his way back into a safe position though.

Yung looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Putski has picked Yung up and slammed him! Yung can't keep hold of the triangle and Putski manages to pass to side control!

Yung has a hand on Putski's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Putski takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Yung tries to hold on but Putski pushes him away.

Yung is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Gorilla Warfare Academy, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Yung tries to lock up and control but Putski gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Putski's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

My spies in Steel's Grappling Penn inform me that Putski has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Putski can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Yung is looking to escape.
Putski manages to capitalize on a mistake by Yung to take his back!

Yung is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Putski gets his way!
Putski is not going to allow Yung to sit and survive in this position.

Yung tries to escape but Putski has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Putski controlling the position well here. Yung rolled but Putski kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Well, with Putski on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Yung is tapping out... Can he escape the position?

Putski is taking a breather. Yung says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Putski is working for a kimura but Yung is defending it quite comfortably.
The fighters are battling for position here. Yung manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Yung keeping moving, preventing Putski from controlling successfully.
Yung has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Yung is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Putski defends well.
Putski sitting in guard, not really doing much.

It looks like Putski might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Yung has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Putski is working away from the top position though.

Putski is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Yung sees it coming and defends easily.

Putski wants to free his trapped foot but Yung is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Yung is adopting a defensive guard.
