PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Klay Montez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Van Harvey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Klay Montez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Van Harvey!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Harvey shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Harvey seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Montez does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Montez is looking to escape.
Harvey thows a huge punch but Montez dodges it nicely.

Harvey is trying to work for a kimura but Montez is defending well.

Harvey is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Montez is just riding it out for now. Harvey eventually gives up the hold.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Montez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Montez has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Harvey is working away from the top position though.

Harvey is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Montez doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Harvey.
Harvey takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Harvey is working for a kimura but Montez is defending it quite comfortably.

Harvey is working for an americana but Montez has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Harvey was thinking about the submission.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Harvey seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Montez wants to stand but Harvey is controlling the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Harvey shoots in for a double leg but Montez sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Montez half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Montez wants to take the fight to the mat but Harvey manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Montez seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Harvey has gone for a leg lock! Montez slips out almost immediately though and dives into Harvey's guard.

Harvey is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Montez is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Harvey is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

That was a close round but I would say that Klay Montez will probably get the nod.

Montez can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Harvey controls the pace.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Montez jumps guard.
Harvey prevents Montez from getting back to his feet.

Van Harvey has got the better of the ground game so far.
Harvey is pushing down on Montez's leg trying to pass to half guard. Montez is fighting to maintain full guard but Harvey has managed to sneak the leg through.

Montez tries to hold on but Harvey pushes him away.

Harvey is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Montez is surviving well by controlling Harvey's body position as best he can.

Montez is squirming around, avoiding Harvey's attempts to control the action.

Harvey is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Montez has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Montez!

Van Harvey showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Montez stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Montez wants it to stay on the feet.
Harvey shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Montez as he jumps to the side.
Montez tries to counter with a takedown but Harvey is quick to defend against it.

Harvey drives through and clinches with Montez against the cage.

Montez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Montez shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Harvey is trying to defend but Montez finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Montez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Harvey keeps working.
Montez is nestled in close to Harvey, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Harvey has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Montez is working away from the top position though.

Harvey wants to sweep but no luck.
Harvey preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Harvey is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Harvey bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Montez's guard.

Harvey drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Montez manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Harvey has Montez in his guard.

Montez chips away with some ground and pound.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Harvey looking to hit a scissor sweep but Montez is one step ahead there.
Montez slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Montez trying to control the position from guard on top but Harvey is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Harvey wants to sweep here but Montez controlling him for the moment.

Klay Montez showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Montez has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
