PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mariano Hood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Crack Head (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mariano Hood!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Crack Head!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, John Mangel and Ben Watson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Head looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Still in half guard, Head seems content to control.
Head wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hood keeps working.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Head lands a nice short elbow.

Hood looking for submissions off his back.
Head is stalling here. Hood is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Head seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Hood has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Head is looking for a sweep.
Head is still trying to improve position.
Hood misses with the ground and pound.

Head tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Hood sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Head is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Hood stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Head looking to score a takedown here. Hood is defending well but Head drives through and ends up in Hood's guard.

Head pushing down on Hood's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Head wants to control but Hood is keeping him busy.

Hood is holding on to half guard well.
Head looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Head wants to take a breather but Hood is having none of it.

Head stands up out of the half guard.
Head looks to score with a jab to the body but Hood is just out of range.
Hood wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hood throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Head was covering up waiting for the punch and Hood finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Hood postures up.
Head might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Hood haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Head is looking to stand up but Hood isn't so interested in that idea.

Head trying to control the position.
Head is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Hood decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Hood tries to clinch but Head moves out of range.

Hood gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Head throws a big elbow that misses.
Head trying to control the position from guard on top but Hood is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Crack Head will probably get the nod.
That's time! Hood's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Head darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Hood pushes Head off and gets back to his feet.
Head throws a sloppy head kick and Hood moves out of range easily.
Head misses with a double jab.
Head thows a body kick. Hood tries to catch it but that hurt him.

Head gets the takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Head decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Head has closed the distance and engaged Hood in a clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Head breaks the clinch.
Head misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Hood counters with a three punch combo that has Head backing up. Head nods at Hood to acknowledge the strikes.
Head moves in looking to clinch but Hood pushes him off.
Crack Head seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hood dodges the punch combination from Head.

Hood manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Head on his heels. He'll look to pass Head's guard now, I'm sure.
Head is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Head is just content to waste time from the top position. Hood takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Hood keeping moving, preventing Head from controlling successfully.
Head wants to get up but he can't break Hood's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Head trying to control but Hood is working from the bottom.

Hood has a closed guard, preventing Head from standing up.
Head controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Head drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Head jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Hood looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Head passes into side control.

Head stands up.
Head lands a front kick.
Hood tries to clinch but Head is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Crack Head showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Hood gets tackled into the cage by Head. Head maintains the clinch.

Head breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Hood throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Head.
Head throws a fast counter high kick but Hood manages to duck under it in time.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Head connects with a body shot.

Head drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Hood wants to get back to his feet but Head passes into half guard.

Head seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hood does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Hood wants to control but Head passes into side.

Head is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Hood is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Head laying and praying for a moment but Hood takes advantage and regains half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Head is thwarting Hood's attempts to control the position.
Hood is not content to let Head control the position.

Head stands up out of the half guard.
Head misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
As Head tries to get set, Hood tries to push him back and clinch up but Head manages to avoid the attempt.

Head fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hood sprawls well initially but Head persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
It looks like Head is going to stand back up.
Head landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hood desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Head is keen to just control but Hood is a slippery customer.
Head is controlling the pace.
Crack Head has got the better of the ground game so far.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

And that's the end of the fight!
Crack Head comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Head has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
