Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Darwin Dixon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Christopher Rios (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Darwin Dixon has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Darwin Dixon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Christopher Rios!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Reed Andrews and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rios closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Dixon to the mat! Dixon manages to get full guard.
Dixon seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Dixon keeping moving, preventing Rios from controlling successfully.
Rios looking to pass the guard.
Dixon tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Dixon might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Dixon seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rios advances to half guard.
Rios wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dixon keeps working.
Dixon is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Rios jumps into side control!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dixon tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Rios wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Rios has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Dixon enables Rios to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Dixon manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Rios distracts Dixon with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Rios looking to sit in guard and control but Dixon gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Dixon controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Dixon stands up from Rios's guard - Dixon perhaps looking for a knockout.
Rios fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Dixon lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Rios circles away quickly and effectively.
The fight stays on the outside here - Rios looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Rios drives through with a takedown into guard.

Rios throwing strikes but missing.
Dixon wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Rios would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Dixon wants to stand up but Rios is controlling him.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Dixon tries to sprawl but Rios drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Dixon regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Rios.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rios wants to stand but Dixon is controlling his posture from full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Christopher Rios dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Dixon.

Dixon feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Dixon tries to stand but Rios is controlling from the bottom.
Rios manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Dixon manages to get himself to full guard.

Dixon is pulling down on Rios's head. It's preventing any offense from Rios, at least for the moment.

Dixon has Rios pulled in close to control his posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rios sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Dixon's guard.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Rios. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Dixon on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Dixon pulls Rios in to control the position.

Rios is looking to work some ground and pound but Dixon has wrist control.
Dixon keeping moving, preventing Rios from controlling successfully.
Dixon is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Rios stands and steps away. Dixon gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Rios tries to clinch but Dixon is having none of it.

Rios throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Dixon was covering up waiting for the punch and Rios finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Christopher Rios has got the better of the ground game so far.
Rios is breathing heavily.
Dixon manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Rios manages to get himself to full guard.

Rios doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Rios looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Dixon passes into half guard.
Dixon is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Rios is trying to stand up here but Dixon is controlling him well.

Dixon is working for a submission of some sort.
Dixon controlling the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Darwin Dixon will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Dixon avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Dixon tries to counter by clinching up but Rios breaks away and moves out of range.

and Rios counters with a three punch combo that has Dixon backing up. Dixon nods at Rios to acknowledge the strikes.

Rios takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Dixon has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rios is working away from the top position though.
Rios seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Rios seems to be working for a kimura but Dixon defends the submission attempt.
Dixon keeping hold of Rios's head, controlling as best he can.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The fighters are battling for position here. Dixon manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Rios won't allow Dixon to sweep him here.

Christopher Rios comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rios has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
