The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pope goes for a double leg but Gonjalez avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Gonjalez continues to drive forward.
Pope takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Gonjalez misses with the combination.
Pope is looking to counter the offense by Gonjalez and move into the clinch.
Gonjalez lands a nice hook to Pope's body. Pope takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Gonjalez scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gonjalez misses with a jab, cross combination.
As Gonjalez looks to move away, Pope throws a big counter combo but Gonjalez just gets out of the way.

Pope looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Gonjalez tries to kick Pope off in order to stand up. Pope Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

Pope lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Gonjalez down.
